Bouquets of flowers and a playlist of instrumental and soft music were created by students and played before and during the candlelight vigil.<\/p>\n<p>Mindi-Kim Schrum, San Juan College senior director of financial aid, spoke on behalf of San Juan College, which was followed by a moment of silence in remembrance of Ariana.<\/p>\n<p>Schrum said part of healing is remembering how Ariana touched the lives of so many. She said and instructor and classmates remember her as having a \u201cmillion-dollar\u201d smile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve heard wonderful stories about her kindness and how she always took the time to help others,\u201d Schrum said. \u201cOne student shared how she was lost and anxious on her first day of class, and Ariana kindly smiled at her and said, \u201cDon\u2019t worry, I\u2019ll show you how to do college.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those attending received orange and purple ribbons, the orange to bring awareness to gun violence prevention and the purple to honor Ariana with one of her favorite colors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is heartwarming to see so many gathered here to remember Ariana Rosas. We are all so very heartbroken over the loss of this beautiful young woman,\u201d Schrum said.<\/p>\n<p>Schrum read \u201cThe Light of Peace\u201d:<\/p>\n<p><em id=\"emphasis-e54c81e551d27929a5d9813a8cf916e9\">\u201cWe light this candle to acknowledge that peace can be ours despite pain and loss.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em id=\"emphasis-346bd7354e92cacce56db4512ca55c70\">\u201cWe light this candle to represent the light of peace.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em id=\"emphasis-e8434a3d13e4806cd54a90a4e0f57d45\">\u201cWe pray for peace in the midst of our loss, especially when we feel frustrated or resentful that those around us may not understand our grief.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em id=\"emphasis-46e03938421f75970bbf91c1d8f85de1\">\u201cWe give ourselves permission to seek rest and quiet reflection and allow our wounded hearts to experience the pain of our loss.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em id=\"emphasis-45702b71fa8c75e5a31fd73ba58b6a18\">\u201cWe open our heart and spirits to receive the peace that passes all understanding.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As we extend our sincere condolences and prayers to Ariana\u2019s family and friends, may she rest in peace.<\/p>\n<p>Allison expressed the sadness felt by \u201closing one of our own.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that the vigil was an opportunity to begin the healing process and honor the life of Ariana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTimes like these are when we stand unified as one college and one community. Throughout her time here, she touched the lives of both students and employees. At 18 years old, Ariana had a lifetime of potential and prosperity ahead of her,\u201d Allison said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a teenager myself, I can also share a sincere sense of grief knowing someone in my age group will not be able to fulfill their dreams or life\u2019s destiny.
