Purgatory Resort has extended the ski season for another weekend and potentially into May if conditions allow.<\/p>\n

The resort announced its decision via social media and email Thursday afternoon. Purgatory statistics show the resort recorded 375 inches of snow this season and has had below-average spring temperatures, making conditions suitable for spring skiing.<\/p>\n

The resort stopped daily operations on April 9 and was supposed to be open on weekends through April 23. But management felt conditions remained satisfactory to continue weekend operations through April 30, said spokeswoman Theresa Graven.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always the resort\u2019s goal and intent to give back to the ski community and make it possible for people to continue to use their passes this year,\u201d Graven said.<\/p>\n

The resort plans to open nearly half its runs on the mountain with lifts servicing only the front side and will not access beginner terrain. Graven said skiers should beware of their skill level and understand that only intermediate and expert terrain is likely to be open.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpring skiing conditions can mean the slopes might be a little icy first thing in the morning,\u201d Graven said.<\/p>\n

Skiers should check the daily forecast to understand what conditions to expect.<\/p>\n

Graven said extending the season can be a challenge for the resort because of seasonal employment. Often, seasonal employees have plans for summer employment and may not be available after the typical ski season.<\/p>\n

Purgatory plans to have live music from 1 to 3 p.m. April 29 on the beach area.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt should be a pretty fun scene, even just to come get a few bonus laps in this season,\u201d Graven said.<\/p>\n

Purgatory is also allowing weekday and Hesperus season pass holders to ski during extended weekend operations.<\/p>\n
