There will a bounce house for the kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden declared May 5 as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day on May 4, 2022, when he signed into law the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2022\/05\/04\/a-proclamation-on-missing-or-murdered-indigenous-persons-awareness-day-2022\/\" id=\"link-298d928df780f607d3d19f5bb13481e3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proclamation <\/a>stated, \u201cThis important law expands special criminal jurisdiction of Tribal courts to cover non-Native perpetrators of sexual assault, child abuse, stalking, sex trafficking, and assaults on Tribal law enforcement officers on Tribal lands and supports the development of a pilot project to enhance access to safety for survivors in Alaska Native villages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Gomez and Randall-Shorty organized the first National Day of Awareness rally because of the high percentage of missing and murdered Indigenous people from Farmington and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p>According to the New Mexico Indian Affairs Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iad.state.nm.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/MMIWR-TF-Infographic-1.28.2021.pdf\" id=\"link-c34e27ebb3285bcee7907458baa91562\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2014-2019 statistics<\/a>, females constitute 66% of Native American missing person cases in Farmington. In New Mexico, homicide rates of Native American women is higher than any other racial and ethnic group.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics also showed that of the solved homicide cases in Farmington, 43% were Native Americans and 48% of missing persons in Farmington were Native Americans, surpassed only by 76% in Gallup. He was found dead from gunshot wounds in an isolated field in Nenahnezad July 25, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy Zachariah was passionate about his music, and wanted to learn to be a tattoo artist,\u201d Randall-Shorty said of her son, adding that he was about to launch a career as a <a href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/@isol8ed922\" id=\"link-a6fe4f6164a3dd6aab2cca62c9d4a62d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recording artist<\/a> when he died. \u201cHis life was just beginning, only 23 years old.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of those responsible for his death.<\/p>\n<p>Gomez, an attorney based in Albuquerque who works pro bono on MMIP cases, represents 18 New Mexico families, including Randall-Shorty. Gomez has brought attention to MMIP cases by sharing information about her clients\u2019 cases with media outlets.<\/p>\n<p>The story of Pepita Madalyn Redhair, who was last seen Nov. 16, 2022, was featured on season 10 of the Investigation Discovery television series \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Disappeared-Season-10\/dp\/B0B8NDWLRN\" id=\"link-100e2f60f3e85417d5de2414850a9a07\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disappeared<\/a>.\u201d Zachariah Juwaun Shorty\u2019s story was featured on Eric Carter-Landin\u2019s podcast \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uSqSZqZnElc\" id=\"link-d804e894ba960601d7a510bd82471ebb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">True Consequences<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=f98fe0f9-1dd3-5bf8-b8f1-e828965d665c&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"960\" height=\"960\" alt=\"Law enforcement is seeking information on the disappearance of Pepita Madalyn Redhair, who has been missing since March 27, 2020. Donations may be made via <a href=\"Zelle@vangie0620@yahoo.com\" id=\"link-005e92d8a64b49ef6de4e65fdfbe4f51\" target=\"_blank\">Zelle<\/a> and at the rally. All donations will go directly to Gomez\u2019s 18 clients to help with expenses incurred by families as they conduct their own investigations into the disappearances or deaths of loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDesperate for answers, they drop everything to follow leads around the state and Navajo Nation,\u201d Gomez said.<\/p>\n<p>Rally organizers have invited various civic and law enforcement officials to participate in the rally, such as tribal council members, Bureau of Indian Affairs, city council members, FBI and churches. Any group or individual in search of justice for Indigenous people is invited to attend. As of Monday, 4Corners K-9 Search &amp; Rescue and AIM Din\u00e9 Bik\u00e9yah Chapter have confirmed their participation.<\/p>\n<p>After the rally, Randall-Shorty invites the public to attend a balloon release to commemorate her son, Zachariah\u2019s, birthday at 6 p.m. at Brook Haven Park-East, 805 W. Apache St. Shorty was born May 5, 1997.<\/p>\n<p>In collaboration with the Farmington rally, Native Women Running will host a virtual Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives Healing and Prayer Run from May 4 to 7. Participants may also hike, swim, walk or engage in any type movement to show their support.
