(Jeff Gritchen\/The Orange County Register via AP)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">onset<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved an additional COVID-19 booster for adults 65 years old and older and for people with weakened immune systems.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, the Food and Drug Administration authorized the additional dose for those individuals older than 65 years who received their last vaccine at least four months ago. Immunocompromised individuals who received a bivalent booster at least two months ago are also eligible to get a second dose.<\/p>\n<p>In New Mexico, about 20% of those eligible for the omicron booster have received the updated shot.<\/p>\n<p>People with weak immune systems may receive additional doses at intervals decided by their doctors.
