The 40th annual Shiprock Marathon will be run May 5 and 6 beginning at Shiprock Youth Center, 4198 U.S. Highway 491.<\/p>\n

Ronald Kinsel, son of Navajo Code talker John Kinsel Sr., confirmed Thursday that his father no longer plans to appear at Shiprock Marathon. Ronald told The Journal<\/em> that his father is no longer up to attending public events.<\/p>\n

The race will offer three distances: 5K, half marathon and full marathon.<\/p>\n

The 5K trail race will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, May 5, on the Blueberry Hill course, which begins and ends at Shiprock Youth Center. Plaque and\/or medal awards will be awarded for overall and age-group top finishers.<\/p>\n

The half marathon will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the marathon will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 6. Both courses are out-and-back routes along Highway 491 and Navajo Route 13.<\/p>\n

Packet pickup will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. May 5 and from 6 to 6:45 a.m. May 6 in the large parking lot of Shiprock Youth Center.<\/p>\n

Shiprock Marathon is a USATF Certified Course.<\/p>\n

Runners will receive a performance T-shirt and post-race snacks. The post-race party and awards ceremony will include live music, food and awards at the finish line.<\/p>\n
