The $650,000 project began with the closure of the facility April 17, with meals now being prepared at the VFW in Aztec.<\/p>\n<p>Aztec City Manager Jeff Blackburn said a $363,000 TSD Capital Building Grant from the state of New Mexico will be used, along with other funding sources.<\/p>\n<p>Blackburn said they hope they\u2019ll be able to apply some of the $105,000 available funding from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/Sessions\/23%20Regular\/bills\/house\/HB0505.pdf\" id=\"link-ca9b3cc2d79b8bcfdafe558dd6d07f8d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Bill 505<\/a>. Since the project is underway, Blackburn said they may not be able to use those funds for this project, but ultimately they will be used for the Senior Center.<\/p>\n<p>The bill set aside $3 million to address emergency needs, including renovations and immediate code compliance, to purchase and install equipment and furnishings, to purchase and equip vehicles and meals equipment and for the purchase, delivery and installation of building systems at senior centers statewide.<\/p>\n<p>The funding needed beyond the $363,000 from the TSD grant will come from the city of Aztec general fund, Blackburn said during a phone call April 25.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=5933d02e-91e8-55b3-968e-8bf05f8a5f09&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" alt=\"During closure of the Aztec Senior Center, seniors are directed to the Aztec VFW for their noon meals. Winters Construction was awarded the project, but forecasting a completion date is very difficult, Blackburn said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the current supply chain issues, etc, etc.,\u201d Blackburn said things rarely go as planned. \u201cWe\u2019re just blessed that we got Winters on board,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=951ce787-bf87-5e0b-8d70-79618a10708b&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"2667\" alt=\"Preparations are underway for removal of tile containing asbestos.
