The novel has been adapted into a movie by Comet Pictures and Blumhouse Productions, to be directed by Curtis.

The graphic novel focuses on Nova Terrell, whose father died on one of Cobalt Corp.’s experimental oil extraction projects. Nova develops a plan of sabotage and vandalism against Cobalt Corp., and in the process uncovers the terrifying “true nature of the Mother Nature project and the long-dormant, vengeful entity it has awakened that threatens to destroy them all,” the news release says.

“I’ve always been aware of the very unbalanced relationship between humans and nature, and even though I was young, I always knew that, inevitably, nature would win,” Curtis said, explaining her idea for the story.

Curtis has admired Stevens’ work for a long time, and wanted him to be part of the creation process.

“I was immediately blown away by the depth of the characters, the perfect blend of action and gore, the urgent ecological message, and how all these things would translate beautifully into a graphic novel,” Stevens said.

Co-writer Goldman explained that they wanted the novel to focus on the Four Corners area, especially New Mexico, which he described as “an amazing part of the world where every major source of energy is mined, and where the climate and resource crises are acutely felt.”

The novel prominently features Navajo characters, and five years of research was put into writing this story. Navajo artists Brian Lee Young and Jerry Watchman collaborated on this story as well.

In an interview with Publishers Weekly, Goldman explained that the goal of creating the fictional town of Catch Creek was to generate “earnest, authentic connections with the Navajo community.”

Mother Nature will be available to buy in comic shops, bookstores, and in digital formats on Aug. 8.

‘We wanted to reach deeper than the big picture doom-and-gloom,’ co-writer Russell Goldman said

[28,29

post-33248","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-headlines","tag-newsletter
["GET
