(Ruidoso Downs)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Ruidoso Downs<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>RUIDOSO \u2013 The second jewels of quarter horse racing\u2019s Triple Crown will take place this weekend at Ruidoso Downs when the track hosts the $1 million Rainbow Futurity on Sunday, preceded by Saturday\u2019s $804,000-added Rainbow Derby.<\/p>\n<p>With no chance for a Triple Crown in the 2-year-old series after Ruidoso Futurity winner Lets Leave failed to qualify for the Rainbow Futurity, a full field of 10 were entered into the starting gate for the 400-yard dash, which will go as the 11th race on Sunday\u2019s program.<\/p>\n<p>Meantime, Cyber Attack, winner of last month\u2019s Ruidoso Derby, earned the second-fastest qualifying time for Saturday\u2019s Rainbow Derby when trials were held on July 2. Owned by Rosenthal Ranch LLC and trained by Christopher O\u2019Dell, Cyber Attack remains on course for sweeping the 3-year-old series with a win in the Rainbow as well as the All American Derby on Labor Day weekend.<\/p>\n<p>A win in that race will reward the connections with a $1 million bonus and an automatic invitation to the Grade 1 Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos Race Course in Southern California this fall.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a preview of the weekend\u2019s headline races at Ruidoso Downs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"naviga-element naviga-subheadline1\">Dark NME the one to beat in Futurity<\/div>\n<p>Owned by TYKHE Racing, LLC, Dark NME comes into Sunday\u2019s Grade 1, $1 million Rainbow Futurity as the fastest qualifier and drew post seven in the 10-horse field.<\/p>\n<p>Unbeaten after four starts, including a score in the $800,000-added Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity on April 23, the daughter of Hes Relentless will be ridden by Francisco Calderon for trainer Santos Carrizales, Jr. in the 400-yard dash.<\/p>\n<p>Dark NME earned the role as the likely post time favorite for the Rainbow Futurity when she clocked in as the fastest qualifier during the first day of trials held on June 30. Racing against a mild head wind, Dark NME won the fourth of 16 trials by 3\u00bc lengths in a time of 19.61 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Before that, she won a trial heat for the Ruidoso Futurity, but failed to qualify for the first leg of the quarter horse Triple Crown series for 2-year-olds.<\/p>\n<p>Dark NME is one of two horses in the Rainbow Futurity trained by Carrizales, who also will saddle Trane Station V, the second-fastest qualifier from Friday\u2019s heats.<\/p>\n<p>Owned by Valeriano Racing Stables\u2019, Trane Station V broke his maiden with a 2\u00bc-length win in the 14th trial of the day. (Ruidoso Downs)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Ruidoso Downs<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><div class=\"naviga-element naviga-subheadline1\">Strong field of 10 entered for Saturday\u2019s Rainbow Derby<\/div>\n<p>Cyber Attack, a seven-time winner from 10 career starts with more than $1.5 million in lifetime earnings, will look to earn the second jewel of quarter horse racing\u2019s 3-year-old Triple Crown when he faces nine rivals in Saturday\u2019s Grade 1, $804,288 Rainbow Derby at 440 yards.<\/p>\n<p>Cyber Attack has won five consecutive races and has won four times from six lifetime starts at Ruidoso Downs, including the Ruidoso Derby on June 10. (Ruidoso Downs)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Ruidoso Downs<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Ridden by Eduardo Nicasio, Cyber Attack earned the second-fastest qualifying time for the Rainbow Derby when trials were held on July 2.<\/p>\n<p>Cyber Attack drew post three in the Rainbow Derby and has been installed as the 2-to-1 morning line favorite.<\/p>\n<p>Sicario V, the fastest-qualifier for the Rainbow Derby, drew post nine and was made the second choice on the morning line at odds of 7-to-2. Trained by Carrizales and slated to be ridden by Calderon, the son of Favorite Cartel won the $100,000 Ruidoso Invitational last month and has earned more than $518,000 with three career victories from nine starts.<\/p>\n<p>The Rainbow Derby will go as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.equibase.com\/static\/entry\/RUI071523USA10-EQB.html\" id=\"link-1af29ff76c5e59380ff9bf4cb8d69406\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10th race on the Saturday card<\/a> with a scheduled post time of 4:54 p.m. local time.<\/p>\n<p>Before the Rainbow Derby, a field of 10 3-year-old fillies will go postward in the Grade 1 Rainbow Quarter Horse Oaks, worth a purse of more than $478,000 and run at a distance of 440 yards.<\/p>\n<p>Cartel Kisses, owned by Larry and Roberta Parker-Rice, is trained by Heath Taylor, currently atop the quarter horse trainer standings at Ruidoso Downs this season, is the 5-to-2 morning line favorite for the Oaks.<\/p>\n<p>A nine-time winner from 13 career starts, Cartel Kisses was a better-than-looked third in her trial heat run over a sloppy track on July 2 at Ruidoso Downs. Before that, she won the $460,000-added Los Alamitos Oaks on March 23.
