(Curtis Ray Benally\/Turkeyboy Photography)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Curtis Ray Benally<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>FARMINGTON \u2013 Caleb Hoover, who recorded a .562 batting average during last week\u2019s Connie Mack World Series, was named the tournament\u2019s Most Valuable Player, one of four members of the new champion Dallas Tigers to receive individual recognition for their efforts in the World Series.<\/p>\n<p>Hoover recorded eight runs batted in during the tournament, including pool play competition while also throwing more than seven innings from the mound, giving up only three hits and striking out nine batters during the series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t be a part of something like this and to have this honor without my teammates hard work and the encouragement of my coaches,\u201d Hoover said after the championship game. \u201cThese guys on the field stepped up all week long and made all of this possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the most important innings on the mound for Hoover came in the championship game against the Midland Redskins. (Curtis Ray Benally\/Turkeyboy Photography)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Curtis Ray Benally<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A commit to Oklahoma State University and about to begin his senior year at Rockwall-Heath High School in Rockwall, Texas, Hoover also stole three bases during the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn all honesty, Hoover did a little bit of everything for us,\u201d said Tigers head coach Brett Bergman. \u201cHe\u2019s such a good kid and he does so much to make our team better. He\u2019s been with the team for a long time now and he\u2019s done everything we asked of him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hoover joined Sawyer Farr, Jack Hickerson and Brady Gray as part of the all-tournament roster.<\/p>\n<p>Hickerson, who started on the mound in the championship game for the Tigers and struck out six Midland batters, was joined on the all-tournament roster of pitchers by Chase Herrell and Nathan Taylor from Midland, as well as Colton\u2019s Mason Edwards.<\/p>\n<p>Farr, who won the Golden Glove award from the shortstop position, brought in the game-tying runs in the championship game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=caf75eff-8bcc-5e9f-9e9c-a7d727dc6c23&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" alt=\"The 2023 Connie Mack World Series all-tournament team. (Connie Mack World Series)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">CMWS.org<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Gray, who earned a spot on the all-tournament roster from behind the plate, batted .500 during the World Series, and had an integral part in all three of the Tigers walk-off wins during the event.<\/p>\n<p>Gray\u2019s walk-off home run Thursday night against the Southern California Renegades lifted the Tigers into the final four. The night before, Gray and Major Brignon scored the game-tying and game-winning runs in a victory over the Colton Nighthawks.<\/p>\n<p>In the championship game, Gray scored the first run in the bottom of the seventh inning that helped the Tigers rally from a 2-0 deficit on their road to winning the title.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou couldn\u2019t have asked for that honor for a better kid,\u201d said Bergman of Gray. \u201cHe\u2019s given so much of his time and effort to this team and he\u2019s so deserving of the award.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=3f1ab9f2-7a29-5059-b487-d458ac5ade1f&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" alt=\"Tulsa Sandlot's Taber Stokes connects with the ball in the top of the fourth inning against Colton Nighthawks on Thursday during Connie Mack World Series bracket play at Ricketts Park. (Curtis Ray Benally\/Turkeyboy Photography)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Among the others named to the all-tournament team were a trio of players from Colton, including second baseman Eric Jeon and outfielders Ryder Young and Bryan Martinez. Midland was also represented on the all-tournament team by shortstop Maddox Riske and designated hitter Nolan Souza, who won the Big Stick award, who hit a pair of home runs and drove in seven during the series.<\/p>\n<p>Tabor Stokes and Nathan Murphy each made the all-tournament team from Tulsa Sandlot. Stokes had a batting average of .667 during the World Series, drove in three runs and scored twice.
