Empire Electric Association would purchase the power.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Montezuma County Planning Department<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>After two years from a proposal to build a solar project in northwest Cortez by OneEnergy Renewables, three solar projects are now set to open this year.<\/p>\n<p>Greenbacker Renewable Energy Co. acquired the Cortez projects, which produces a total of 12 megawatts in direct current for commercial operation.<\/p>\n<p>The solar facilities consist of Rocky Ford (2.6 MWdc) southeast of Cortez, Totten (2.8 Mwdc) near Totten Lake and Montezuma (6.5 MWdc) northwest of Cortez off County Road 24.<\/p>\n<p>The project was approved two years ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-journal.com\/articles\/solar-project-wins-approval-in-montezuma-county\/\" id=\"link-b7a8231dcbe58b084de777e3d8b635bb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em id=\"emphasis-15e5064c5dc2e8763ee24a5694a820a2\">The Journal<\/em><\/a> reported, with a mitigation process to find solutions for residents who opposed the construction.<\/p>\n<p>According to a news release, Greenbacker purchased the facilities through a fully owned subsidiary to get the projects running in the Four Corners area for long-term power.<\/p>\n<p>Greenbacker owns several dozen solar energy projects in Colorado, producing more than 115 MWdc of solar energy projects, where over 100 MWdc are operational.<\/p>\n<p>The three Cortez projects are part of Greenbacker\u2019s second portfolio-level acquisition with OneEnergy.
