Courtesy of Read Brugger<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The Sunflower Troupe\u2019s committee carefully reviewed 24 submitted playwrights for the upcoming Sunflower Shorts Play Festival, paving the way for six of them to be performed at the second regional play festival.<\/p>\n<p>KSJD\u2019s Community Radio\u2019s Sunflower Theatre will host the second Sunflower Shorts Play Festival on Friday, Sept 8 through Sunday, Sept. 10.<\/p>\n<p>Not only will the troupe showcase six original playwrights but it also advances the Sunflower Troupe to evolve together. They\u2019re a volunteer-run, community theater group based in Cortez and provide a creative outlet for community members while delivering quality entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>The productions will serve the audience to a variety of situations \u2013 reimagining nursery rhymes and fairy tales, dealing with a difficult dinner guest, awakening to the shift of seasons, plus more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether you enjoy drama or comedy, seek a happy ending or a surprise, want to laugh or cry, there is a play for you in this mix,\u201d the troupe\u2019s executive producer, Kim Welty, said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The winning authors all hail from the Four Corners area \u2013 Alisa Krakel and Wendy Watkins from Dolores, Edward Debutz and Vicki Meagher from Albuquerque; Michael Chapman and Joyce Fontana from Durango.<\/p>\n<p>New faces will be seen with the troupe\u2019s established nine actors in the festival\u2019s productions, including Angie Beal, Sam Eggenhuizen, Amorina Lee-Martinez and Lauren Ragland.<\/p>\n<p>The plays\u2019 directors are Heidi Brugger, Silvia Fleitz, Steve Free, Hattie Miller and Mo Murray.<\/p>\n<p>Audience members should expect to participate to vote for the play they liked the most.
