(Montezuma-Cortez School District)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>At their Tuesday meeting, the Montezuma-Cortez RE-1 School District announced a school board member vacancy in District B after member Jeanette Hart resigned from the board effective Oct. 31.<\/p>\n<p>According to Hart\u2019s resignation letter, she originally planned to resign in July.<\/p>\n<p>In her letter, Hart expressed her appreciation for the board members and her time spent on the Board of Education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter careful consideration and a heavy heart, I have made the difficult decision to resign my position as school board director and treasurer,\u201d Hart said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been my pleasure working with our school board members and administration and I am proud of each of them and the knowledge base they each exemplify,\u201d Hart continued. \u201cHowever, I do not feel that I am servicing the board as I had wished in giving back to the community that I have lived in for 48 years due to being torn between my family, work and trying to educate myself as to the school board activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Letters of interest are being accepted for the seat in District B, and the deadline to submit a letter is Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants are asked to submit their letter of interest to the Montezuma-Cortez School Board by mail or deliver in person to Debra Ramsey at the Montezuma-Cortez School District Re-1 building 400 N. Elm St., mail to P.O. Box R in Cortez or by email to <a href=\"mailto:deb.ramsey@cortez.k12.co.us\">deb.ramsey@cortez.k12.co.us<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By state law, the board has 60 days after declaring a vacancy to find a new member.
