A man was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon south of Durango, according to the La Plata County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

The victim was identified Thursday by the La Plata County Coroner as Randall Moon, 53. No further information was immediately available about Moon, but he apparently lived in the area off La Posta Road (County Road 213) south of Durango.<\/p>\n

The shooting was reported to law enforcement at 1:19 p.m. on Rancho Durango Road off La Posta Road in the High Flume Canyon area, said Sheriff\u2019s Office spokesman Chris Burke.<\/p>\n

Three people were in the house at the time of the shooting, including the victim, Burke said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDeputies are in contact with the shooter,\u201d Burke said shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Sheriff\u2019s Office has declined to release any other details, including whether any arrests have been made.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis case is early in its investigation and ongoing,\u201d a news release said. \u201cThere is no additional information available at this time. \u2026 There is no threat to the public or local residents.\u201d<\/p>\n
