(Jerry McBride\/Durango Herald file)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The Colorado Department of Transportation has reopened Coal Bank Pass and Molas Pass and Wolf Creek Pass after it <a href=\"https:\/\/codot.gov\/news\/2024\/february\/us-160-wolf-creek-pass-us-550-mountain-corridor-scheduled-to-close?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=winter-travel-alert&amp;utm_content=newspaper-icon\" id=\"link-3d36ba85a74884ef4d2e63bcaf12bd2b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced Tuesday afternoon<\/a> that it would close both U.S. Highway 160 over Wolf Creek Pass and U.S. 550 from Purgatory Resort north to Ouray.<\/p>\n<p>Red Mountain Pass will remain closed overnight through Thursday morning, a news release from San Juan County said.<\/p>\n<p>The department is<a href=\"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/articles\/more-snowfall-predicted-throughout-the-week-in-southwest-colorado\/\" id=\"link-84ba31788839c0393f503489a257faa1\" target=\"_blank\"> dealing with heavy snow t<\/a>hat is creating adverse weather conditions and high avalanche danger.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lat=37.90845010709064&amp;lon=-107.69622802734375\" id=\"link-e9331d565203c3e79a89a8877307ca19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Weather Service<\/a> is predicting snow on Red Mountain pass through the weekend, with some predictions calling for over 2 feet of snow at higher elevations.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/avalanche.state.co.us\/?lat=37.47214665222214&amp;lng=-106.86908813383893\" id=\"link-a8f866e96df16b1f889ddfe62c271d3d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colorado Avalanche Information Center<\/a> issued an avalanche warning for the region Tuesday afternoon, forecasting a \u201chigh danger\u201d level for Wednesday and Thursday at all elevations and all aspects. The danger rating means that natural avalanches are possible and human-triggered slides are very likely.
