At his hearing on Tuesday morning, Delsin Freeman, 18, who was arrested in connection with the September street shooting in Cortez, had his appearance on counsel and received a date for his preliminary hearing.<\/p>\n

At the hearing in the 22nd Judicial District Court, Freeman\u2019s counsel Rachel Lanzen of Lanzen Law LLC appeared via Webex from Hudson, Colorado.<\/p>\n

Lanzen informed Chief Judge Todd Plewe that she had applied for public defender, but hadn\u2019t received a confirmation notice.<\/p>\n

After discovering an administrative error, the court confirmed Lanzen as Freeman\u2019s representation and \u201cconflict-free counsel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lanzen requested that they move to preliminary hearing 45 to 60 days out from the current date.<\/p>\n

Plewe scheduled Freeman\u2019s preliminary hearing for March 29 at 1:30 p.m., with Lanzen saying she would be at the hearing in person, barring weather or other conflicts.<\/p>\n

At his Jan. 11 hearing, the court was able to locate Lanzen and request she be Freeman\u2019s counsel after unsuccessful attempts to find an attorney to represent him.<\/p>\n

Freeman was also released on a $25,000 bond in January. Judge William Furse lowered the bond to $25,000 from $250,000 after finding no evidence that a bond that high was needed.<\/p>\n

Freeman and a minor were arrested Dec. 17 in Towaoc during the investigation of the shooting, which reportedly targeted an individual named Noah Farrar.<\/p>\n

When the shooting took place, Farrar and the others involved were unharmed, but 18-year-old bystander Josilyn Mark was shot and flown to Grand Junction. Though there were concerns she could lose her leg, Mark is on the mend.<\/p>\n

Police arrested multiple individuals on suspected connection to the shooting, and are still seeking one minor.<\/p>\n

Two other individuals who have been arrested will have court cases this month. Demetrius Adams will appear in court on Feb. 8 at 10:30 a.m., and Trinadie Lopez will have his next hearing Feb. 13 at 10 a.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
