{"id":28561,"date":"2024-03-14T11:51:31","date_gmt":"2024-03-14T17:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/flc-theatre-presenting-natasha-pierre-and-the-great-comet-of-1812\/"},"modified":"2024-03-14T17:51:31","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T17:51:31","slug":"flc-theatre-presenting-natasha-pierre-and-the-great-comet-of-1812","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/flc-theatre-presenting-natasha-pierre-and-the-great-comet-of-1812\/","title":{"rendered":"FLC Theatre presenting \u201cNatasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=279f0983-4547-5a72-a78d-c10cec6d2b0e&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1296\" alt=\"\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>To conclude the 2023-24 FLC Theatre season, you will be transported to Moscow, Russia; the year is 1812, the setting is Leo Tolstoy\u2019s novel, War and Peace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t worry,\u201d a news release says, \u201cwe are not doing a musical encompassing the entirety of Tolstoy\u2019s epic work, but rather a 70-page segment, which was adapted into the Broadway hit musical, \u2018Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The production will be held in the MainStage Theatre, Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive, from April 3 through April 7. Showings will be held at 7:30 p.m. April 3 through April 6. There will be an early showing on April 6 at 2 p.m. and a final production date on April 7 at 5 p.m. Tickets are between $10-$25 and can be purchased online at durangoconcerts.com.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Great Comet\u201d debuted in 2012 at the Ars Nova under the direction of Rachel Chavkin, then made its way to New York City\u2019s Meatpacking District. The production then played in a tent erected in the Manhattan Theater District before making it up the street and making its Broadway debut in 2016 at the Imperial Theatre starring<a href=\"https:\/\/www.joshgroban.com\/\" id=\"link-00a6cb6351597331862b169c88c93cd6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Josh Groba<\/a>n and<a href=\"https:\/\/playbill.com\/person\/denee-benton-vault-0000127215\" id=\"link-979c56a2637a39f3f4a2983745718b90\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Den\u00e9e Bento<\/a>n. The production garnered 12 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>FLC\u2019s MainStage Theatre production of \u201cNatasha, Pierre &amp; The Great Comet of 1812\u201d features a cast of 20 including Harrison Wendt as Pierre and Katelyn Bowie as Natasha. The production is directed by Michael E. McKelvey and choreographed by Suzy DiSanto. Great Comet will also feature a live ten-piece orchestra under the baton of Dr. Wesley Dunnagan. The remainder of the creative team includes set and lighting designer James Padilla, costume designer Megan Sander, and sound designer Logan Roybal.<\/p>\n<p>Holding to the spirit of the original production, \u201cThe Great Comet\u201d will be an immersive experience with the company using the entire theatre as its stage.
