{"id":28395,"date":"2024-04-02T20:45:02","date_gmt":"2024-04-02T20:45:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/peaceful-end-to-standoff-at-durango-mobile-home-park\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T06:28:48","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T06:28:48","slug":"peaceful-end-to-standoff-at-durango-mobile-home-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/peaceful-end-to-standoff-at-durango-mobile-home-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Peaceful end to standoff at Durango mobile home park"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=192b808a-c004-553f-8e12-90d597360ae3&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" alt=\"\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A standoff between police and a resident of Animas View Mobile Home Park in north Durango ended with a peaceful arrest around 2 p.m. Tuesday after a suspect barricaded himself into a mobile home when police attempted to serve multiple warrants.<\/p>\n<p>The man is suspected of threatening a construction worker with an ax on Monday, said Deputy Chief Brice Current, with the Durango Police Department.<\/p>\n<p>Officers tried to carry out a search warrant for the property, located on Animas View Drive, and an arrest warrant for attempted first-degree assault, felony menacing and theft at 9 a.m. Tuesday when the interaction turned sour.<\/p>\n<p>The man, who officers described as in his 40s, threatened officers with a knife and retreated into his home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were able to withdraw and just take our time and try to figure out the best possible outcome to remedy the situation,\u201d Current said.<\/p>\n<p>Over a dozen officers and mental health professionals responded to the incident and spent about five hours negotiating with the man before he agreed to surrender.<\/p>\n<p>Current said the man was experiencing a mental health crisis and spoke with multiple mental health counselors at a distance throughout the standoff.
