Rains could follow during the day Saturday. But no significant buildup of snow was expected.

Weather conditions are expected to be mostly sunny, maybe breezy in the afternoons next week, and very dry without a hint of precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.

Wind gusts could reach 25 mph to 30 mph every day next week, but that’s about as exciting as the weather is going to be.

Kris Sanders, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, said the predicted dry spell after weekend storms is typical of late April weather.

“Typically, we’ll have systems move through and usually a high pressure will build in behind it and that causes sinking motion, drying air masses,” he said. “That’s why you sort of have these periods of wet and cool versus warm and dry.”

He said from Durango 46 miles to Cortez, temperatures are forecast to be in the upper 60s to mid-70s.

Sanders said there are chances of other systems and precipitation moving into Southwest Colorado next week, but northern Colorado has the best chances for moisture at this time and Durango is facing dry weather.

“Some of those systems can drop further south next week, then the chances of precipitation will work its way into portions of southern Colorado,” he said. “… But for now, dry, near-average temperatures.”

cburney@durangoherald.com

[950,28,1623,1164,414

post-27948","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-durango","tag-headlines","tag-rain","tag-snow","tag-weather
["GET
