with a pickup truck.cca

A Farmington man was arrested after hitting four people with a pickup truck after a family scuffle, police say.

Ashton Padilla, 20, was charged with four counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after he reportedly hit and injured three people with his pickup truck, then struck a pickup and injured a woman inside.

Farmington Police were called to the scene at 9:22 a.m. Thursday at 810 Hope Ave., where they found “Jacob Foutch lying face down on the east side of Hope (Avenue) just south of the driveway,” according to the statement of probable cause.

Foutch’s daughter, Lillith, was sitting next to him in the street.

“She was crying, and it appeared she had injuries to her legs and face,” the statement said.

A man identified as James Padilla appeared to have an injury to his right leg, while a youth sitting in a pickup truck, injured her face “when Ashton rammed them all,” police wrote in the statement.

Police determined that Ashton Padilla was driving so fast that the collision set off the air bags and pushed the vehicle 40 feet. “It takes a lot of force and speed to move a parked car that far,” police observed in the probable cause statement.

According to police, Ashton said he was in “a grappling/wrestling fight” with his brother James Padilla, and Lillith reportedly “was kicking Ashton in the head.”

Ashton reportedly told police he left but returned and said Foutch “started to run toward him as he drove toward the driveway,” so “he ran over Jacob,” according to the statement of probable cause.

Ashton also reportedly said that he “felt threatened by” Foutch, even though “he did not see any weapons,” according to the police statement.

Police reported that “Ashton asked if Jacob was dead,” and when he found out he was “seriously injured,” he allegedly “stated he would not have been sad if Jacob died.”

Foutch did suffer “serious injuries to his hips,” and was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center for treatment along with Lillith, James and the youth..

Padilla’s preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. May 22 in Farmington Magistrate Court.

Ashton Padilla charged with 4 counts
