{"id":27544,"date":"2024-05-21T00:14:52","date_gmt":"2024-05-21T06:14:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/farmington-high-lockdown-caused-by-man-not-in-a-sober-state-of-mind\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T00:04:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T06:04:49","slug":"farmington-high-lockdown-caused-by-man-not-in-a-sober-state-of-mind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/farmington-high-lockdown-caused-by-man-not-in-a-sober-state-of-mind\/","title":{"rendered":"Farmington High lockdown caused by man \u2018not in a sober state of mind\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=b1ca025f-4a13-5329-abf9-1b306b8949af&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" alt=\"Jason Kinney, 39, was arrested May 17 after his actions reportedly sent Farmington High School in full lockdown.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Jason Kinney, 39, was arrested May 17 after his actions reportedly sent Farmington High School in full lockdown.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>More details have surfaced regarding the May 17 lockdown at Farmington High School.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Kinney, 39, reportedly entered the school at 9:20 a.m. and asked to \u201csee a counselor,\u201d but when office staff requested he sign in as a visitor, police said he \u201cstruggled to use the visitor check-in kiosk\u201d and appear to be \u201cnot in a sober state of mind,\u201d according to the affidavit for arrest warrant.<\/p>\n<p>The school resource officer attempted to find out why Kinney was at the school, after the man \u201csat down at a desk and never successfully checked in.\u201d He reportedly told the officer about his \u201clife struggles,\u201d but did not say anything about having a student in the school, the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>Kinney was asked to leave, but then stated \u201che was going to check out his two kids,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>Police said Kinney acted \u201cangrily\u201d toward the officer who asked him to leave, and he walked over to the checkout sheet \u201cwriting all over the log sheet and not signing out a student like normal,\u201d according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>The officer and high school office staff again asked Kinney to leave, but \u201che grabbed onto the front desk partition,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, the officer took Kinney by the arm and tried to \u201cescort him away from the front desk,\u201d but he reportedly pulled away and argued, saying he was being mistreated, the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>The office attempted a restraint technique but Kinney pulled away and allegedly resisted and \u201cstruggled,\u201d at one point his \u201chead collided\u201d with the officer\u2019s face, and the officer thought Kinney was trying to \u201chead-butt\u201d him, the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>After this struggle Kinney \u201cfell to the ground,\u201d where the officer attempted to hold him, but the man managed to reportedly use his fist to \u201ccrush\u201d the officer\u2019s \u201csunglasses, which had fallen off during the struggle,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>Once Kinney was handcuffed, police say he still \u201cstruggled and resisted,\u201d according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>When the other officer\u2019s arrived, Kinney reportedly told authorities that \u201cpeople were putting stuff in the walls affecting his water,\u201d and that he \u201cwas worried about his drink;
