It\u2019s a fabulous space that Karen McPheeters created.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was McPheeters who found Prescott\u2019s work when the library was built, and she raised the money to place his sculptures on the property.<\/p>\n<p>Decades later, Prescott is helping introduce other artists to Farmington through the downtown exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s great the city is doing it,\u201d Prescott said. \u201cIt\u2019s great for the people who live up there and great for the whole town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sculpture exhibit is a competition of sorts, in that artists submit photos of their work and the juror selects pieces from the photos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to jury a show from pictures,\u201d Prescott said. \u201cIt\u2019s like trying to jury paintings from slides. \u2026 It\u2019s really difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, when Prescott saw the pieces in person on May 10, he said they were really something to see and looked much better than in the photos.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" genres in sculpture,\u201d he said of his selections. \u201cThere wasn\u2019t a lot to choose from, but I picked what was there \u2013 a little bit realistic, a little bit abstract, a little bit of everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prescott said this show has potential to grow, but it takes years for things like this to build up, and it will take a lot of marketing. \u201cIf the artists know about it they will submit,\u201d he said, adding he would like to see the city spread the word to artists in Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Taos, \u201cwhere there\u2019s a lot of sculptors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Farmington Downtown Coordinator Karen Lupton works with Maria Kompare and Bev Taylor to put together a call for artists, which is submitted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.callforentry.org\/\" id=\"link-c484c80108a54cd4d098616abee137f5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CaFE<\/a>, a call for entry website for artists, and the show is limited to the four states of the Four Corners.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" the past has not been known as a fine arts market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Farmington has been home to the Totah Festival, which is a juried Native fine arts festival, and the community is home to internationally known artists such as John Cogan and famous cowboy artist Tim Cox.<\/p>\n<p>Lupton said she wants to continue to build upon the past and \u201cbring awareness to people that Farmington Ryan<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Lupton sees the sculpture exhibit as a way to advance the outdoor recreation industry in Farmington, because outdoor enthusiasts \u201care going to want to come and have art and have music,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel we are at a tipping point, and I\u2019m excited,\u201d Lupton said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a community, if we embrace this program and they sell these pieces, we will get more artists in her as well,\u201d Mayor Nate Duckett said during a May 10 artists reception at Artifacts Gallery. He works with bronze and actual vegetation, which he has been known to cast directly into bronze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really a great opportunity to come and have several pieces (shown). I appreciate it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Reven Swanson of Denver has one piece, <em id=\"emphasis-b3c82c84b005d9bba5b7e68429994f0e\">Delilah<\/em>, in the show. She said she bases her stone carvings on petroglyphs.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan Weisenburger of Moab, Utah, has one piece, <em id=\"emphasis-d279908061056fc5daa42011fb6dd385\">Heaven\u2019s Gate,<\/em> in the exhibit. \u201cIt\u2019s an abstract,\u201d he said. \u201cThe bottom half is brown representing the Earth.
