Christian Cole Akin, 35, of Pueblo, Colorado, was arrested May 22 after reportedly fleeing from law enforcement and being found with drugs.<\/span>cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>

A man from Pueblo, Colorado, faces nine criminal charges after being stopped by a San Juan County Sheriff\u2019s sergeant for a traffic violation.<\/p>\n

Christian Cole Akin, 35, was charged with a third-degree felony distribution of a controlled substance, a third-degree possession of a firearm by a felon, a fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor driving without a license, speeding and failure to obey traffic signals.<\/p>\n

The charges are in connection of an incident shortly before 2 a.m. May 22 in the area of New Mexico 516 and County Road 350.<\/p>\n

A San Juan County Sheriff\u2019s sergeant in a marked patrol unit reportedly saw Akin riding a motorcycle with another unidentified motorcyclist at a high rate of speed turning north on County Road 350 from County Road 3500.<\/p>\n

The sergeant attempted to pull them over when \u201cthey both accelerated\u201d and reportedly \u201cran the red light\u201d at the intersection of County Road 350 and NM 516, according to the statement of probable cause.<\/p>\n

The sergeant did not activate his lights and stated that he \u201ccould hear their engines roaring as they drove away,\u201d but then \u201cthe sound suddenly stopped rather than fading away,\u201d according to the probable cause statement.<\/p>\n

The sergeants drove through the nearby neighborhood and reportedly found Akin sitting on a Suzuki motorcycle in front of a home on County Road 3546, according to the statement of probable cause.<\/p>\n

The sergeant ordered Akin from the motorcycle and reportedly noticed a Canik MeteSFT 9 mm pistol in a holster on the man\u2019s hip. According to authorities, it \u201cwas flagged as stolen out of Texas,\u201d court records state.<\/p>\n

When questioned about this, Akin reportedly said he got the gun from his friend, who \u201cgot it from \u2018Bam Bam Firearms\u2019 out of Pueblo, Colorado,\u201d and he \u201cclaimed to not know that it was stolen,\u201d according to the statement of probable cause.<\/p>\n

Akin, who allegedly admitted to riding at 75 mph in a 35 mph zone, reportedly was \u201cwearing multiple jackets and pairs of pants,\u201d which law enforcement stated \u201cis behavior common to people who use narcotics,\u201d because it provides them with places to \u201chide illicit substances and paraphernalia,\u201d court records state.<\/p>\n

The sergeant questioned Akin about narcotics and he reportedly \u201cadmitted to smoking fentanyl regularly.\u201d He also allegedly stated that he might have \u201cone pill at the bottom of his backpack,\u201d but then he reportedly changed the statement to he \u201cmight actually have hundreds of pills in the bag,\u201d according to the statement of probable cause.<\/p>\n

Akin was transported to the San Juan County Detention Center, where his backpack was searched, and law enforcement reportedly found two 16-ounce jars of \u201chot banana pepper rings,\u201d but the jars were allegedly filled with \u201chundreds of pills,\u201d believed to be fentanyl, court records state.<\/p>\n

Akin had one conviction from October 2015 for possession of dangerous drugs, which made him a felon, according to the statement of probable cause.<\/p>\n

He was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center at 9:39 a.m. May 22, and he was released to pretrial services at 1:13 p.m. May 24.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
