WASHINGTON \u2013 After U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet shared this week<\/a> that he worries President Joe Biden can\u2019t win in November, Colorado\u2019s other senator, John Hickenlooper, has taken a different approach.<\/p>\n

Hickenlooper told reporters at the Capitol on Wednesday that he and Bennet discussed their positions on Biden\u2019s campaign during a long walk Sunday, so he was aware of Bennet\u2019s concerns. Still, Hickenlooper said he thinks Biden will do what is best for the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI keep coming back to, I mean, Joe Biden for 50 years \u2013 more than 50 years \u2013 has always put the country first, and I think he\u2019ll do that again,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He declined to say whether it would be best for the country if Biden stepped aside, saying, \u201cI think what\u2019s best is to win.\u201d<\/p>\n

His latest comments come as news spread<\/a> of a special caucus lunch Thursday at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee headquarters with Democratic senators, Biden advisers Mike Donilon and Steve Ricchetti, and Biden\u2019s campaign Chairwoman Jen O\u2019Malley Dillon.<\/p>\n

Of that meeting, Bennet told reports at the Capitol, \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to that conversation \u2013 should\u2019ve had it 10 days ago.\u201d He shrugged off a question about whether he is disappointed the president won\u2019t be attending the Thursday lunch, saying he hasn\u2019t \u201cbeen able to focus on that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hickenlooper said he doubts the meeting will have much impact on the direction of things. \u201cI\u2019m not sure how far it\u2019s going to move the needle,\u201d he said, adding it would be best if Biden attended.<\/p>\n

Bennet has been one of the most outspoken senators when it comes to raising concerns about Biden\u2019s candidacy. He has stood by those comments throughout the week, saying Democrats will ultimately come together.<\/p>\n

\u201cI absolutely believe we will unify as Democrats,\u201d he said. \u201cI have no doubt that we will unify.\u201d<\/p>\n
