(Courtesy of San Juan County Office of Emergency Management)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>An off-highway vehicle rollover outside Silverton that<a href=\"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/articles\/four-injured-in-ohv-rollover-outside-silverton\/\" id=\"link-b84bb4699c70b42b64c40df3496ef1fe\" target=\"_blank\"> left four injured Monday<\/a> happened when the vehicle went over the edge of what officials are calling \u201cthe most dangerous road in San Juan County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A family of four was traveling with their dog in the side-by-side down a series of switchbacks on County Road 3B from Stoney Pass, near Cunningham Gulch east of Silverton, when the incident occurred around noon. The route is also known as the \u201cBuffalo Boy Road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The OHV rolled 194 feet in total, according to investigators. The passengers and driver were able to jump out of the tumbling vehicle after it exited the roadway; the family dog did not survive.<\/p>\n<p>A woman riding as a passenger and a youth male were flown by helicopters to separate medical facilities with critical injuries before they were taken to Front Range trauma centers.<\/p>\n<p>Flight records show that a Flight For Life helicopter from Mercy Hospital in Durango and a CareFlight of the Rockies helicopter from St. Mary\u2019s Regional Hospital in Grand Junction both responded to the area around 1 p.m. and later returned to their hospitals of origin.<\/p>\n<p>An adult male driver and a youth female passenger were taken by ambulance to an area hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The status of all four patients is unknown.<\/p>\n<p>San Juan County officials are still investigating the cause of the accident and it is unknown whether the victims were wearing safety equipment such as helmets and seat belts.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=fd852679-0f32-5c12-aa5f-e8d2d5f6fb95&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1350\" height=\"1350\" alt=\"An off-highway vehicle rolled off a part of County Road 3B east of Silverton Monday. An OHV rollover on the same switchback last year left four people in critical condition.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Over a dozen members of Silverton Medical Rescue responded to the accident, Incident Cmdr. Michael Burton said in a news release from the San Juan County Office of Emergency Management.<\/p>\n<p>It took Animas Towing and Recovery 12\u00bd hours to recover the OHV. Parts of the vehicle were scattered over a 50-foot radius.<\/p>\n<p>The OHV rolled 112 feet from an upper switchback to a lower road and then continued an additional 82 feet into the trees, San Juan County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy Abigail Armistead said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>County spokeswoman DeAnne Gallegos said the rollover occurred from the exact same switchback as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/articles\/ohv-rollover-near-silverton-leaves-four-in-critical-condition\/\" id=\"link-9526e88dabc7c0ecf2e92ad7d82a783e\" target=\"_blank\">OHV rollover in August<\/a> that sent four patients to the hospital in critical condition.
