On Friday, July 12, Robert Williams was sentenced to six years in prison.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n

Robert Shane \u201cCowboy\u201d Williams, 39, was sentenced to six years in prison for violating his probation in the 22nd Judicial District stemming from a case involving alleged sexual contact with a child.<\/p>\n

Williams was originally sentenced to five years of prison time and probation on March 21, 2022 for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and sexual contact without consent, but failed to adhere to the conditions of his probation, leading to his original sentencing being revoked on July 12.<\/p>\n

According to Assistant District Attorney Jason Eley, Williams was given the maximum sentence by Chief Judge Todd Plewe \u201cto keep the community safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The restraining order in this case is to remain in effect, despite the new sentencing.<\/p>\n

Eley told The<\/em> Journal<\/em> that Williams has five other pending cases in Dolores and Montezuma counties.<\/p>\n

The charges include eluding law enforcement, retaliating against witnesses, residential burglaries, motor vehicle theft, criminal possession of identification documents, violation of a protection order, obstruction of a peace officer, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, second degree criminal trespass, criminal mischief, illegal possession or consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, driving under restraint and four counts of habitual criminal charges.<\/p>\n

Williams is also charged with sexual assault of a child and sexual assault by one in a position of trust.<\/p>\n

Documentation from the district attorney\u2019s office said that between April 1, 2019 and Oct. 1, 2019, Williams allegedly used force to facilitate unlawful sexual contact with a victim under 15 years old.<\/p>\n

On Sept. 30, 2023, Williams was contacted<\/a> in the Burger King parking lot by officer Vance Carver, but fled from the police, driving through the locked gate at Maxwell Development and Construction at 19 S. Broadway.<\/p>\n

After crashing his vehicle on a berm near the canyon\u2019s ledge, Williams ran into the canyon and disappeared.<\/p>\n

While pursuing Williams, Sgt. Michael Moran found a loaded Remington Arms .30-06 rifle discarded on the trail. After searching the vehicle, officers found drug paraphernalia, alcohol, stolen documents, weapons, ammunition and more.<\/p>\n

Williams was later found and arrested on Oct. 3, 2023.<\/p>\n

The Montezuma County Sheriff\u2019s Office said Williams had an extensive criminal history, including multiple prior weapons offenses and felony charges, at the time of his arrest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
