(Courtesy of Dan Paladino)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A wildland firefighter and paramedic on assignment with the Columbine Wildland Fire Module, based in Vallecito, was injured while traveling to a fire assignment in central Wyoming.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Fincham collapsed at a hotel Monday night and hit his head, according to Dan Paladino, a squad leader with the Columbine Module who has been in contact with Fincham\u2019s family.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=fa34fbb3-37b2-5a1b-9618-f241c3ddd313&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"589\" height=\"940\" alt=\"Fincham is expected to spend several more days in the intensive care unit in Casper. (Courtesy of Dan Paladino)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The incident occurred during work time but was not directly work-related, San Juan National Forest Fire Staff Officer Richard Bustamante said. The module was on its way to the Clear Creek Fire on the Shoshone National Forest in northwestern Wyoming.<\/p>\n<p>The module was in Riverton, Wyoming, when the event occurred, and Fincham was flown to Casper for treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Fincham on Wednesday was in the intensive care unit and will need extensive care and physical therapy, Paladino predicted, and is likely to spend several more days in the ICU.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/support-firefighter-mike-finchams-road-to-recovery?qid=43c0f3670f1a767b92a510c46ad6dcc3\" id=\"link-9fded0a7dcb5b2a733cdfede95956b24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GoFundMe fundraiser<\/a> set up for Fincham\u2019s benefit had accumulated over $8,000 in donations by midday Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n<p>Bustamante said the SJNF had a team of people involved in ensuring Fincham is cared for from afar, and said the Forest Service flew his wife to Wyoming. The Wildland Firefighter Foundation has also coordinated support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a team effort to at least give him and his family the support that they need,\u201d Bustamante said.<\/p>\n<p>Fincham is technically not a part of the Columbine Module, but works as a paramedic training fire staff across the San Juan National Forest.
