Courtesy photo<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A Farmington man with a lengthy criminal record is in the San Juan County Detention Center after reportedly stabbing three people within a week.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan Keith Armijo, 53, has been charged with second-degree attempted murder and two counts of third-degree felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in connection to three stabbings. The first was July 15 at the Broadway Speedway; the second, July 22 on the Berg Park Riverwalk behind the Red Lion Inn; and the third, at a home in the 1400 block of York Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>The Farmington Police Department was called at 10:36 p.m. July 15 to the Speedway at 507 East Broadway to investigate the stabbing of Corey Washburn, 44, who had been stabbed in his stomach \u201cjust under his right rib cage,\u201d according to the statement of probable cause.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect was identified as Armijo, who had a \u201cblack knife in his pants pocket,\u201d with \u201cblood on the tip of the blade,\u201d according to statement.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=51a408f0-4dcc-519b-b638-6a5a1458ef8f&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" alt=\"Jordan Armijo, 53, is accused of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing three men in a week.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Jordan Armijo, 53, is accused of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing three men in a week.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Armijo allegedly told police Washburn tried \u201cto jump him and cut him, so he stabbed him.\u201d However, police did not find a knife in Washburn\u2019s possession.<\/p>\n<p>Police also stated that Armijo became angry and not respond when asked for details. He \u201cappeared\u201d intoxicated, according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p>Armijo was arrested and jailed at the San Juan County Detention Center at 7:20 a.m. July 16. He was released on his own recognizance into Pretrial Services by Magistrate Stanley King, even though he had at least three other convictions for violent crimes on his record.<\/p>\n<p>Convictions included aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in 2006, robbery in 2009 and aggravated battery against a household member in 2009, for which Armijo was sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections.<\/p>\n<p>Six days after being released from jail, Armijo allegedly stabbed two other people.<\/p>\n<p>The <em id=\"emphasis-509ee76fbf4bab77496db529dacc4d52\">Tri-City Record <\/em>was notified of the first stabbing by a resident who saw police in the area July 22, and then found blood spatter on the trail the next morning.<\/p>\n<p>Farmington Police spokeswoman Shanice Gonzales confirmed there had been a stabbing and provided the case report number, but no further information.<\/p>\n<p>The <em id=\"emphasis-d06954c5e141fa04e4052d45b2dcdf6c\">Tri-City Record <\/em>made a public records request at 5:38 p.m. July 23 to the Farmington Police Department for the police report, which involved a stabbing on the Berg Park Riverwalk the morning of July 22.<\/p>\n<p>The police department the <em id=\"emphasis-8ccc749764aeb2afd5355cc1a8334925\">Tri-City Record<\/em> at 11:08 a.m. July 24 that the report wasn\u2019t ready.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe report you requested is not yet available for release,\u201d it said. \u201cWe will keep your request paused until the record is available for release.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the <em id=\"emphasis-f23f8721ee3350a4962ac5f975712022\">Tri-City Record <\/em>obtained the report of another stabbing involving Armijo, and that report tied him to the Berg Park stabbing, so the newspaper gathered information from an arrest affidavit filed with the 11th Judicial District Court.<\/p>\n<p>Then, at 10:55 a.m. July 26, the police department further delayed release of the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe report you requested has not yet been received by Farmington Police Records. We are extending the date of your request an additional 12 Calendar days to fulfill,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about the delays, Gonzales suggested that three vacant jobs in the records division might be causing the delays. However, the department did share crime scene photos from the Berg Park stabbing.<\/p>\n<p>The Farmington Police Department released the police report for the Berg Park stabbing at 10:33 a.m. July 29, and there was no new information in the report.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=95e35e26-c606-55e3-a8e9-3695b4dd4bf7&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"826\" height=\"543\" alt=\"This Farmington Police Department photo shows the area, where a stabbing occurred on July 22 on the Berg Park Riverwalk. About 10:48 a.m., police found Allen \u201cheavily bleeding from his neck,\u201d the affidavit says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe scene started at the brick along the river walk, the walking path, and the path of apparent blood that spanned west towards Denny\u2019s,\u201d the affidavit says.<\/p>\n<p>Allen was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center in critical condition and underwent \u201cexploratory surgery to stop the bleeding in his neck,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>Hospital officials say Allen now is in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p>When he was interviewed by police July 23 in the ICU, Allen reportedly said he was approached by a man, later identified as Armijo, who \u201cexpressed a desire to fight,\u201d the affidavit says.<\/p>\n<p>Allen reported that he did not want to fight, and Armijo \u201cbegan attacking him, stabbing him in the neck and face,\u201d and then walked away, the affidavit says.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=37804191-d3d2-5002-b6c8-2fe12eacd0b0&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1294\" height=\"1486\" alt=\"A trail of blood from a stabbing July 22 on the Berg Park Riverwalk between the Courtyard by Marriott and the Red Lion Inn. (Farmington Police Department)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>About eight hours later, police were called to a home in the 1400 block of York Avenue, where they found Virgil Canuto, Armijo\u2019s uncle, \u201clying on the ground\u201d outside a shed, where he \u201cappeared to have sustained heavy trauma to his head and numerous large lacerations in the back of his head,\u201d according to the Farmington Police report.<\/p>\n<p>Canuto was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center, where he was \u201cintubated and medically sedated\u201d and was in critical condition, according to the arrest affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>Hospital officials say Canuto is in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p>A witness reportedly told police that Armijo was staying at the residence with Canuto and had reportedly walked away from the home with \u201cblood on his khaki pants and hands,\u201d the police report states.<\/p>\n<p>Armijo was picked up in the area of Miller Street and Murray Drive, and he reportedly told police \u201che was upset because his uncle had accused and spread rumors of him being a \u2018child molester,\u2019\u201d so he \u201cstruck Virgil in the head with a closed fist,\u201d the affidavit says.<\/p>\n<p>Armijo reportedly admitted that he kicked Canuto in the head and then used \u201cblue-handled scissors,\u201d which he \u201csticked\u201d into Canuto\u2019s cheek twice. He also allegedly stated that he used a \u201cpellet-style air gun and pumped it ten times,\u201d shooting Canuto \u201cwith a \u2018copper head\u2019 pellet directly in the back\u201d to paralyze him, the affidavit says.<\/p>\n<p>Armijo reportedly told police that he \u201ctried to kill his uncle,\u201d according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>During the interview, police also asked Armijo about the stabbing of Allen earlier in the day, and he reportedly responded that he stabbed him \u201cbecause he believed him to a be a \u2018Chomo,\u2019 slang for child molester,\u201d and that he walked northeast on the Riverwalk, where he disposed of the knife,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=f0c572dd-58f6-5362-9142-4ec31e35cc4c&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"825\" height=\"542\" alt=\"This crime photo from the Farmington Police Department shows where the knife reportedly used in a July 22 stabbing on the Berg Park Riverwalk was discarded. (Farmington Police Department)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The San Juan County District Attorney\u2019s Office filed a motion for pretrial detention to hold Armijo in jail until his trial, saying, \u201cBased on the serious nature of the offense, the State believes no viable conditions of release exist to ensure the safety of the community at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge Curtis Gurley presided over a hearing on Friday for this motion.
