Boys soccer<\/strong><\/div>\n

Montezuma-Cortez notches first win of 2024<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

After a series of near-misses, the Panther boys soccer team nailed down their first victory of the season, winning 2-1 at Moffat County on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Montezuma-Cortez (1-4) will resume its road trip in New Mexico this upcoming Thursday at Miyamura.<\/p>\n

Boys golf<\/div>\n

Montezuma-Cortez continued its strong autumn campaign with a team victory at the Rye Thunderbolt Invitational on Thursday, placing four golfers in the top 10 to earn a two-shot victory.<\/p>\n

Senior Vince Lopez took second overall with a score of 2-over par 73, while freshman Zye Kuenzler earned fifth with a score of 79.<\/p>\n

Seniors Gavin Frost (80) and Frankey Montoya (81) closed in quick succession. Frost was tied for sixth place overall, while Montoya was tied for eighth overall.<\/p>\n

The Panthers shot 232 as a team, edging Monte Vista by two strokes in the field of 22 teams. Montezuma-Cortez will head to Gunnison on Monday and Durango on Tuesday for tournament action.<\/p>\n

Volleyball<\/div>\n

Dolores sweeps Nucla<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Bears took their first San Juan Basin League win of the season with a straight-set win over the Mustangs on Saturday. sweep of the Mustangs, 25-23, 25-13, 25-22.<\/p>\n

The Bears (2-5, 1-0 in league play) will host Mancos this upcoming Thursday.<\/p>\n

Mancos wins back-to-back matches<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Bluejays beat Norwood in four sets this past Thursday and swept Ouray on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Mancos (7-3, 3-0 in league play) has won four straight matches.<\/p>\n

Panthers drop back-to-back vs. Veritas Prep<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Montezuma-Cortez lost 2-0 on Friday and 2-1 on Saturday in Page, Arizona for a series of matches against Arizona foes. The Panthers dropped to 1-4 following that second match against Veritas Prep, which hails from Northeast Phoenix.<\/p>\n

Montezuma-Cortez will open San Juan Basin League play Tuesday at Bayfield.<\/p>\n

Dove Creek sweeps Monticello<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Bulldogs improved to 6-1 on the season following their home victory on Thursday. After a week off, Dove Creek will play at Dolores on Sept. 17.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
