Businesses and organizations chosen as winners in this year\u2019s Best of Cortez & Montezuma Awards will be announced on Oct. 2.<\/p>\n

Fenceline Cider in Mancos will hosting the winners-only event from 5 to 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

There are 96 \u201cBest of\u201d categories \u2013 from \u201cAutomotive\u201d to \u201cWellness\u201d \u2013 and within each category, a first-, second- and third-place winner.<\/p>\n

The 288 winners will be showcased in the Best of Cortez & Montezuma County magazine published Oct. 2.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen people move here, they pick it up,\u201d said Joe Nelson, the multimedia sales executive at The Journal, <\/em>in reference to the magazine.<\/p>\n

Winners will also be featured in The Journal,<\/em> who makes these awards possible, and online at bestofmontezuma.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A big misconception is that someone at the newspaper decides who wins, Nelson said. In reality, the community votes for the winners, and the paper just publishes its results.<\/p>\n

This year, the community nominated local businesses and groups from June 26 to July 7, and voted on who\u2019s best July 14-July 28. By the first week of August, votes were tallied and winners were known.<\/p>\n
