Once a month in the county annex building, the Montezuma County commissioners will host an event to answer questions, converse and connect with community members.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s called \u201cCoffee with the County,\u201d and the next one will be Monday, Oct. 28 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an informal way of being able to talk to the community,\u201d Commissioner Jim Candelaria said.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s always a public comment section during the commissioner meetings, which take place every Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n

But public comment isn\u2019t a back-and-forth discussion; this new event is.<\/p>\n

To be sure, it\u2019s not meant to replace the commissioner meetings every week. The event is meant to add to that, said Vicki Shaffer, the county\u2019s public information coordinator.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to keep it informal, to just sit down over a cup of coffee,\u201d said Shaffer. \u201cLots of world problems get solved over a cup of coffee.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to the commissioners, a different department head will join each meeting.<\/p>\n

At the first meeting on Monday, Sept. 23, Mel Jarmon, the county\u2019s landfill manager joined. At their next meeting, Rick Torres and Ashley Garrett from veteran\u2019s services will be there.<\/p>\n
