On Wednesday, the Dolores Ranger District started and finished planned prescribed fires at Salter Y.<\/p>\n

They burned the 1,280-acre area they intended to, located about 15 miles east of Cahone, north of McPhee Reservoir.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirefighters will now patrol and mop up along the edges of the burn while the low-intensity fire continues to clean up interior pockets of vegetation,\u201d said Lorena Williams, a U.S. Forest Service communications specialist in an email.<\/p>\n

Since Sept. 25 was the only day of firing operations, smoke in the air will drop significantly \u201cas the fire naturally runs out of available fuels,\u201d Wiliams said.<\/p>\n
