{"id":25349,"date":"2024-10-14T10:31:39","date_gmt":"2024-10-14T16:31:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/four-corners-musical-theatre-stages-young-frankenstein\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T05:15:22","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T05:15:22","slug":"four-corners-musical-theatre-stages-young-frankenstein","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/four-corners-musical-theatre-stages-young-frankenstein\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Corners Musical Theatre stages \u2018Young Frankenstein\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=b26004c8-970a-5d03-81ef-5bb941e53fc3&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1252\" alt=\"Matthew Aaron, left, as Dr. Frankenstein, and Chase Cashion as the monster, in a scene from Four Corners Musical Theatre Company\u2019s Production of \u201cYoung Frankenstein.\u201d\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Matthew Aaron, left, as Dr. Frankenstein, and Chase Cashion as the monster, in a scene from Four Corners Musical Theatre Company\u2019s Production of \u201cYoung Frankenstein.\u201d<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Debra Mayeux<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Dr. Frankenstein will soon grace the stage of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fmtn.org\/civiccenter\" id=\"link-4bd5fe58703b9071de72bd3bb0c323e8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Farmington Civic Center<\/a> as <a href=\"https:\/\/fmtn.org\/869\/Four-Corners-Musical-Theatre-Company\" id=\"link-6210c7794aa5c28b2b2efb7a23da70b3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Four Corners Musical Theatre Company<\/a> presents Mel Brooks\u2019 iconic musical <em id=\"emphasis-52bc8b276753a3dab59aa0e6e9752571\">Young Frankenstein<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the 1974 comedy film of the same name, <a href=\"https:\/\/playbill.com\/production\/young-frankenstein-hilton-theatre-vault-0000004676\" id=\"link-b478a0e03216e58cae20a7f468dedaa5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em id=\"emphasis-1f31ada9ab4ae95d26c67e5c38b64b2a\">Young Frankenstein<\/em><\/a>, the musical, opened on Broadway on Aug. 7, 2007, and its run time was 3\u00bd hours.<\/p>\n<p>When Four Corners Musical Theatre decided to stage the show this Halloween, Director Randy West decided to do the London version, which runs about 2 hours and 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know both shows, and you don\u2019t miss anything,\u201d West said. \u201cWe\u2019re doing a really tight version of this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both shows are written by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000316\/\" id=\"link-dfcc0733fa66821b067605845febe720\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mel Brooks <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0576070\/\" id=\"link-b176a43bb5f0144873e4a7dab2142f63\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thomas Meehan<\/a>, and this version is done in homage to the original film, keeping all of the classic Mel Brooks comedy sequences and setting them to music. It also has a PG-13 rating.<\/p>\n<p>The story follows the journey of Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the notorious Victor Frankenstein, who reluctantly inherits his family\u2019s estate in Transylvania. Despite his reluctance to follow in his ancestor\u2019s footsteps, Frederick finds himself immersed in madcap adventures.<\/p>\n<p>With the help of his eccentric sidekick Igor and enthusiastic lab assistant Inga, Frederick brings to life the monster.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=96a3dd58-3874-5118-9b53-dc45e71b06fc&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" alt=\"Bryan Songy, left, as Igor, and Emelia Sherin, as Elizabeth, in a scene from Four Corners Musical Theatre Company\u2019s Production of Young Frankenstein.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Bryan Songy, left, as Igor, and Emelia Sherin, as Elizabeth, in a scene from Four Corners Musical Theatre Company\u2019s Production of Young Frankenstein.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Debra Mayeux<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>It is a tradition for so many to watch the movie starring Gene Wilder every Halloween. With the play, \u201cone famous line now gets a whole song,\u201d West said.<\/p>\n<p>He added the show \u201cis orchestrated within an inch of its life,\u201d and includes all of the \u201creally classic things,\u201d about comedy from Brooks.<\/p>\n<p>Some of those showstopping musical numbers include, \u201cThe Transylvania Mania,\u201d \u201cHe Vas My Boyfriend\u201d and \u201cPuttin\u2019 on the Ritz.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This will be the fourth Halloween-themed musical for the professional theater company, and West said everyone \u201cwalked into it with a familiarity, everyone else has.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The show also brings back many of the familiar faces that have graced the Civic Center stage, since the beginning of Four Corners Musical Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really good for us as a company, where we invest on building the artistic core of the company,\u201d West said.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=b4740da2-d5c5-588e-8654-0898cc431697&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" alt=\"Emma Price, left, as Inga, Bryan Songy, center, as Igor, and Matthew Aaron, right, as Dr. Frankenstein, in Four Corners Musical Theatre Company\u2019s Production of Young Frankenstein.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Emma Price, left, as Inga, Bryan Songy, center, as Igor, and Matthew Aaron, right, as Dr. Frankenstein, in Four Corners Musical Theatre Company\u2019s Production of Young Frankenstein.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Debra Mayeux<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>In addition to the cast, the set is a marvel, and it was designed by a theater student from Montezuma-Cortez High School, who has been watching several of the professional shows.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz Hernandez asked West if he could design the set and West said the student did an amazing job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe did drawings, scaled models and construction drawings,\u201d West said, adding the company crew followed those to build the set.<\/p>\n<p>The production will run at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17-18 and 24-26 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 19 and 27 in the <a href=\"https:\/\/fmtn.org\/civiccenter\" id=\"link-3fcade1e76a4570d2a91698a557241ec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Farmington Civic Center<\/a> Theatre.
