On Saturday, the Sunflower Theatre will host its Standup Comedy Showcase featuring members of Andrea Rossi\u2019s comedy class and \u201cregional comedy hotshots.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a real spotlight\u00a0on finding some humor in a world that is often heavy and burdened,\u201d Sunflower Theatre Director Sarah Syverson told The<\/em> Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n

As of Wednesday, only 17 tickets were left, according to Syverson. Tickets are $15 per person. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

Performers are from the theater\u2019s standup comedy class, which is full. The theater also offers an improv class, which has a waiting list.<\/p>\n

Twelve of the 14 standup students will perform Saturday with four regional comedians.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a world where there\u2019s a deluge of challenging and heartrending information in the news that we just get hit with on a daily basis, this is, in part, a counterbalance to that,\u201d Syverson said. \u201cOften, standup comedy is about finding truth. The funniest things are often the truest, so looking to the truth and being able to laugh and connect as a community around that, it\u2019s really cool to see the community showing up to support that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The theater also will host an improv show on Saturday, Nov. 9.<\/p>\n

Waiting lists are available for the improv and standup classes at the theater.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s structure to the class, and both of them are four-week classes, where once a week for two hours, you meet and learn a skill and you build on those skills each week,\u201d Syverson said.<\/p>\n
