On Thursday, the Cult Movie Federation of Mancos will celebrate its anniversary through the screening of a cult classic horror film on Oct. 17 at the Mancos Opera House, 136 Grand Ave. in Mancos.<\/p>\n

Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the movie will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door through cash or check. Presale tickets will also be available at the Mancos Public Library the day before the event.<\/p>\n

Though the group said they can\u2019t announce the title of the film because of a licensing agreement, they did provide hints.<\/p>\n

The movie, created in 1975, follows a newly married couple named Brad and Janet who discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a mad scientist.<\/p>\n

While in the mansion, the couple \u201cmeet a houseful of wild characters,\u201d including a \u201ccreepy\u201d butler, \u201crocking\u201d biker and a muscular man named Rocky.<\/p>\n

The movie also includes \u201celaborate\u201d dances and rock songs as the scientist, played by Tim Curry, unveils his latest creation to the couple.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis event will surely leave you shivering with anticipation,\u201d the group said.<\/p>\n

The film is rated R for \u201cmoderate sex and nudity; mild violence and gore; mild profanity; mild alcohol, drugs, and smoking and mild frightening and intense scenes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Concessions will be sold, and visitors 21 years old and older can bring their own beer.<\/p>\n

They also encourage audience members to dress up for the movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cAudience members are encouraged to engage with the film and to dress up in their favorite costumes,\u201d said Erik Nordstrom, one of the group\u2019s founders.<\/p>\n

According to CMFM the idea for the Cult Movie Federation of Mancos came about when Nordstrom was speaking with Ryan Matthews at the Mancos Valley Summer BrewFest of 2023.<\/p>\n

After having this conversation, Nordstrom and Matthews met up to discuss how cult movies could be shown in Mancos on a regular basis with the idea of using the Mancos Opera House as the venue.<\/p>\n

Soon, CMFM was born, with the help of additional committee members Jared Boudreaux, Jenni Kitchen and Mark Stevens.<\/p>\n

The startup costs were \u201cgenerously supplied\u201d by the Mancos Creative District, and the Mancos Public Library became the administer.<\/p>\n

Soon, the committee was able to meet with the owners of the Mancos Opera House, Philip and Linda Walters, and they were able to establish a monthly tradition. The first Cult Move Night was on Oct. 26, 2023, and featured a classic movie from 1956.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince this first movie, a different movie has been shown every month at Mancos Opera House. There have been regular customers, as well as new movie fans, at every movie. Many CMFM enthusiasts have expressed appreciation of Cult Movie Nights bringing the community together and of the films being enjoyable, humorous or thought-provoking,\u201d the group added.<\/p>\n

In January, Anna Pierotti joined the organization to round out the CMFM committee. Pierotti is credited for \u201cspearheading the drive\u201d to bring the anniversary movie out of the archives for attendees to enjoy.<\/p>\n
