(Courtesy Southwest Health System)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Southwest Health System hired a new physician, and she started on Monday, Oct. 21.<\/p>\n<p>Her name is Dr. Megan Viquez.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s certified in family medicine and specializes in \u201cmaternal-child health and surgical obstetrics,\u201d a press release said.<\/p>\n<p>She studied at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and went to the Contra Costa Family Medicine Program in California for residency, the release said.<\/p>\n<p>She went on and \u201cfurther honed her expertise\u201d by undergoing a maternal-child health fellowship at Avista Adventist Hospital in Louisville, Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer outstanding qualifications and commitment to women\u2019s health will significantly enhance the care we provide to our patients,\u201d Southwest Health System\u2019s Chief Executive Officer Joe Theine said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>Her start came on the heels of the firing of Dr. Erin Schmitt, a former OB\/GYN at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Charles Krupa, a public information officer at SHS, said they are \u201cfully committed to continuing to provide high-quality care to women throughout their pregnancy and postpartum,\u201d and that hiring Viquez is testament to that.
