(Emily Hutcheson Brown\/Courtesy Photo)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>This initiative to have student members of the school board was first proposed by former board President Pam Coppinger, who said it was important that student voices were represented on the board.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know they will represent the student body and provide a unique perspective and voice, which will be invaluable to our district and the board of education,\u201d the board said.<\/p>\n\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=64934e7f-06e2-510d-afdd-10f355a5b291&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"Rosalinda Phillips\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Rosalinda Phillips<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Phillips, who is Hispanic and Din\u00e9, was born in Albuquerque and raised in Mancos and Cortez. She is a junior at Mancos High School.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy favorite subject is PCC English, and after school I love to go to the gym and workout with my brother, Angel,\u201d Phillips said.<\/p>\n<p>She added that she loves being creative by doing art or welding. She also hopes to make a difference in whatever community she lives in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy passion has always been to make a difference in any community I am involved with. I wanted to take the opportunity that I was offered to really have a voice and represent my peers in a positive way,\u201d Phillips said.<\/p>\n<p>After high school, Phillips hopes to travel and experience different cultures so she can share her experiences with others at home. She also plans to study nutrition science, business and real estate investment\/development in college.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of my biggest goals is to put a smile on people\u2019s faces. I plan on doing that by opening up my own caf\u00e9 one day and spreading positivity by giving back to my community through awesome food and coffee,\u201d Phillips said.<\/p>\n\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=71aa0325-c62d-55b8-a853-47e43a1d683b&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1824\" height=\"2736\" alt=\"Olivia Jukes\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Olivia Jukes<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Jukes is a junior at Mancos High School, sharing that she has been in the district about nine years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve grown up in many different places all around the U.S., and my parents decided to move here after my dad retired from the Coast Guard in 2015,\u201d Jukes said.<\/p>\n<p>Jukes plans to study business at a Northeastern college.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI enjoy spending time with my family, friends, teammates and at church.
