(Journal file photo)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Montezuma County is predicted to have a \u201cwarm, dry\u201d winter based on current weather patterns, but experiences no drought \u201cat all right now,\u201d according to James Andrus, the National Weather Service\u2019s weather observer in Cortez.<\/p>\n<p>Andrus told <em id=\"emphasis-11732a5b10a2a1e7d3a641c0a3b42233\">The<\/em> <em id=\"emphasis-4c45050b91afc50ba8e2aa33df7c230c\">Journal<\/em> that as of mid-November, the Dolores Basin has 408% of snow water content, but the percentages aren\u2019t \u201ctoo significant yet\u201d because of the small amount of snow that has fallen this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite a developing cooler La Nina temperature pattern in the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean, which forebodes drier winter weather for the Southwest, October rainfall went gangbusters with 2.53 inches of precipitation \u2013 234% of our normal 1.08 inches \u2013  thanks to two major rainstorms in the middle and end of the month,\u201d Andrus said.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, the year-to-date precipitation rose to 12.25 inches, which is 122% of the county\u2019s 10.05-inch average.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is why Montezuma County has no drought at all right now,\u201d Andrus said.\u00a0\u201cOur first snow of 0.7 inches on Oct. 31 is 116% of our 0.6 inch monthly average.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the seasonal temperature outlook and seasonal precipitation outlook, the probability of above-normal temperatures for November through January will be between 40% and 50% with below-normal chances of precipitation of between 40% and 50%.<\/p>\n<p>October temperatures also saw eight daily high temperature records broken, as well as tying six daily high temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>Andrus said all indicators so far point to a warm and dry winter, but that can always change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you consider the variability of the different episodes of weather, it\u2019s not a guarantee,\u201d Andrus said. \u201cThis past fall, we had dry months and wet months; I\u2019m reluctant to forecast what the rest of the winter will look like.
