(Torrey Palmer\/Courtesy photo)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>People were turned away from the door on the final three nights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was so exciting to sell out the last three shows, but it was disappointing to have to turn some people away,\u201d MCHS drama program director Nicholaus Sandner told <em id=\"emphasis-86ee70e6e62c476a976242678a45baf8\">The<\/em> <em id=\"emphasis-0831696aba94232552e02d3ee7d3c761\">Journal<\/em>. \u201cThis is the first time in the 14 years I\u2019ve taught in Cortez that we\u2019ve sold out a show, so it was thrilling to know that there was that much interest in the show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=67f2a463-bb7a-55a7-8698-9f548608b416&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1010\" height=\"1346\" alt=\"The musical gave a spin on the classic tale. (Torrey Palmer\/Courtesy photo)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Sandner said all the preparation for the play paid off, as it became a magical performance that captivated audience members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe play came together so well. All the hard work and long hours really paid off when we started putting the show in front of audiences,\u201d Sandner said. \u201cIt\u2019s always fun to see how the students step up their performances. It becomes real magic onstage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that it\u2019s exciting to see theater performances growing in popularity in the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe drama program has really grown over the years, and I think we\u2019ve reached the capacity of people we can fit on the stage and now in the audience, as well,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s great to see that there is a huge interest in live theatrical performances in Cortez, and it has been fun to be a part of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While every aspect of the play was enjoyed by the audience, Sandner said \u201cbig production numbers\u201d like \u201cBe Our Guest\u201d and \u201cGaston\u201d were highlights for the cast and audience alike, and that the cast members were able to become more and more comfortable playing their characters throughout the course of the show.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=cb406c16-566e-5be3-a212-6bf1a3398416&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1337\" alt=\"The cast and crew of \u201cBeauty and the Beast.\u201d (Torrey Palmer\/Courtesy photo)\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">The cast and crew of \u201cBeauty and the Beast.\u201d (Torrey Palmer\/Courtesy photo)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>He also thanked the community for their support and interest in the musical.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarla Sitton and I would like to thank the community for the tremendous support of our productions over the years. We love working with all the community members in the pit orchestra, cast and crew, and we love seeing everyone who comes to see the shows.
