Cortez is looking to fill seven vacancies on five different city boards.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoards come and go; it\u2019s not necessarily unusual to have multiple vacancies,\u201d said Cortez City Clerk Linda Smith.<\/p>\n

All the vacancies are volunteer \u2013 and thus unpaid \u2013 except for the Planning and Zoning Commission<\/a>, which pays its members $25 a meeting, Smith said. That board has one opening.<\/p>\n

The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Board<\/a> is also looking to fill openings. There are three vacancies in that board, two of which are student representative vacancies.<\/p>\n

\u201cParks and Rec likes input from kids who use the Rec Center,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n

Traditionally they recruit high schoolers to fill those spots, but it\u2019s open to any student that\u2019s interested.<\/p>\n

The Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Advisory Board meets the first Thursday of each month at 3 p.m. in City Hall, and may have additional \u201cspecial meetings.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cortez Historic Preservation Board<\/a> has a vacancy, which will ideally be filled by someone with \u201can interest and knowledge of local history and culture,\u201d according to a news release. That board also meets at City Hall, on the first Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n

The Library Advisory Board<\/a> is looking for someone to advise the \u201cLibrarian and City Council on the operation and policies of the Library,\u201d among other things. This board meets at the Cortez Public Library.<\/p>\n

Community members from all over Montezuma County are welcome to apply to the aforementioned vacancies.<\/p>\n

The Board of Adjustments and Appeals<\/a>, which is the final board looking to fill an open position, and it must be filled by Cortez residents. Same goes for the Planning and Zoning Commission.<\/p>\n
