The Mann Dance Academy keeps its themes new and different for every performance, and it\u2019ll enter the Christmas season with it latest show, \u201cThe Nutcracker.\u201d<\/p>\n

The performance will take place Dec. 14 and 15 at the Henderson Fine Arts Center, which is also celebrating 29 years of dance in the community.<\/p>\n

Founders Becky Mann and Judy Mann discussed the ballet, which has proved successful with over 15 years of community support.<\/p>\n

\u201cJudy and I enhance costumes and we changed the choreography, so it\u2019s not the same show every year,\u201d Mann said. \u201cThere\u2019s always a few surprises, some new things that we try to bring to the stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leading roles started rehearsing last summer. All classes at Mann Dance involved in the ballet ranged from elementary ages to early college.<\/p>\n

Lead ballerinas are rehearsing every day. Those with advanced experience will be dancing on pointe, where they\u2019ll stand on the tip of their toes in specifically designed pointe shoes.<\/p>\n

Some dancers have been part of the ballet since early childhood and are now seniors in high school, Mann said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey know every count in the musical score, and they can remember the dances from when they were little kids all the way up to the most advanced,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have kids of all levels and all ages, and it\u2019s really quite a learning experience, but it\u2019s super fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mann Dance is a broad spectrum of technique, ages and abilities. That spectrum is evident in the ballet with younger dancers taking on the role of mice while young adults showcase tap, hip-hop and lyrical techniques in the Christmas Spectacular.<\/p>\n

Younger dancers have found mentors, and there will be 90 children involved this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can be a very chaotic, creative mess in the beginning, and then it all comes together,\u201d Mann said.<\/p>\n

The dance studio has found support through the Connie Gotsch Foundation in sponsorship, as well as assistance from community members when moving set pieces.<\/p>\n

The costumes and set design are almost entirely curated by the Mann sisters.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very fun, and it\u2019s just beautiful when it all comes to fruition on stage,\u201d Mann said.<\/p>\n
