No American car has ever completed a sub-seven-minute lap on the N\u00fcrburgring track, which is considered the ultimate fitness test for a road-performing vehicle.<\/p>\n

In terms of production cars, the Ford Mustang GTD is the fifth-fastest production car, according to N\u00fcrburgring\u2019s official records.<\/p>\n

And according to Matthew Clugston, general manager at Ziems Ford, car buffs might soon see on the streets of Farmington.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, we have a local customer that has applied for and been approved to receive a Mustang GTD. It is not known at this point when the customer will see the vehicle,\u201d he said. \u201cThe customer is now in the process of working with his concierge at Ford on the ordering process for his desired options.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ford Mustang GTD packs a whopping 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet torque and is equipped with a 5.2-liters supercharged V-8 engine and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. It is the most powerful Ford vehicle and engine ever produced.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve also surpassed the Dodge Viper\u2019s record time of 7 minutes and 1.3 seconds. The Mustang is equipped with a full carbon-fiber body, carbon ceramic brakes, and semi-active suspension. The car itself costs around $325,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is exciting that Ford was the first American auto manufacturer to produce a vehicle to conquer this sub-7-minute milestone. Ford\u2019s Mustang GTD is in rare company of a small group of vehicles that can say that they have done this and has proved they can run with the high-end European cars,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWere extremely excited to have the opportunity to deliver one of these vehicles to a lucky customer,\u201d Clugston said.<\/p>\n

Driven by Dirk M\u00fcller, a driver for Multimalic Motorsports, the Mustang GTD set a record time of 6 minutes, 57.685 seconds on a 12.9-mile track with fast corners and \u201cThe Green Hell.\u201d<\/p>\n

The weather nearly made the lap time impossible to achieve, but it later cleared up and made it happen. Ford CEO Jim Farley<\/a> said this won\u2019t be the last time we\u2019ll see the supercar beating Mustang on the N\u00fcrburgring.<\/p>\n

The Ford racing team believes they can go faster<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re proud to be the first American automaker with a car that can lap the N\u00fcrburgring in under 7 minutes, but we aren\u2019t satisfied. We know there\u2019s much more time to find with the Mustang GTD. \u201cWe will be back,\u201d Farley said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe team behind Mustang GTD took what we\u2019ve learned from decades on the track and engineered a Mustang that can compete with the world\u2019s best supercars,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Greg Goodal, the GTD\u2019s chief program engineer, has been with Ford for more than 22 years and has developed every Mustang since the 4th generation. The race team has worked hard to turn the GT3 race car into a road-legal car.<\/p>\n
