{"id":23918,"date":"2025-01-22T00:36:18","date_gmt":"2025-01-22T07:36:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/farmington-man-sentenced-for-shooting-killing-woman\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T22:44:52","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T04:44:52","slug":"farmington-man-sentenced-for-shooting-killing-woman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/farmington-man-sentenced-for-shooting-killing-woman\/","title":{"rendered":"Farmington man sentenced for shooting, killing woman"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=e9979376-946f-5ebb-8d1a-f74954de5466&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"700\" height=\"380\" alt=\"\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A Farmington man was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for killing one woman and injuring another.<\/p>\n<p>Hanson Tsosie, 34, entered a plea agreement Oct. 3 in federal court in Albuquerque, admitting to one count of second-degree murder and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.<\/p>\n<p>The charges were in connection to a Sept. 5, 2021, incident in which Tsosie admitted to \u201crepeatedly firing a 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun\u201d into a group of people gathered around a tree in an area near Nenahnezad, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>The gunfire struck one woman, killing her and another woman, who \u201cwas seriously wounded with life-threatening injuries that were extremely painful,\u201d court records say.<\/p>\n<p>Both were bystanders, and according to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office \u201cneither woman posed any threat to Tsosie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the shooting, Tsosie drove more than 46 miles and \u201cdisposed\u201d of the vehicle he was driving, court record say.<\/p>\n<p>The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI investigated this case with the assistance of the Navajo Police Department and Department of Criminal Investigations.<\/p>\n<p>Upon his release from prison, Tsosie will be subject to five years of supervised release.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mark A. Probasco and Matthew J.
