The city of Cortez is seeking candidates to fill open seats on multiple city boards. The boards include the Public Arts Advisory Board, Planning and Zoning Commission, the Board of Adjustment and Appeals and the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Advisory Board. The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Advisory Board is specifically seeking youth members.<\/p>\n

Members of these boards help address issues and advise the Cortez City Council on the issues. All board positions will remain open until filled.<\/p>\n

Those interested in serving on a board can complete the application form<\/a> at www.cortezco.gov\/327\/Boards-Commissions and provide a letter of interest. Cortez Public Arts Advisory Committee<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Arts Advisory Committee is committed to enriching the cultural environment and experiences of the people of the city of Cortez through education, sustainable support, coordination and promotion of the arts and affirms the value and necessity of arts as an integral component of the quality of life and the economy of the city of Cortez,\u201d the city said.<\/p>\n

This committee meets at City Hall, 123 E. Roger Smith Ave., on the first Monday of each month, starting at 5 p.m. More information about this committee can be found on the city\u2019s website<\/a> at www.cortezco.gov\/553\/Public-Arts-Committee.<\/p>\n

Cortez Planning and Zoning Commission<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPlanning and Zoning is the first body that reviews development proposals and is relied upon to help ensure that the city continues to grow, while preserving our sense of community,\u201d the city shared.<\/p>\n

The city added that some of the responsibilities members of this commission will take on include making and adopting a comprehensive plan, hearing, recommending and\/or determining matters relating to zoning, planning or subdivision control, recommending boundaries of the various zoning districts and exercising the duties and powers of the land use code and applicable laws of the state of Colorado.<\/p>\n

Those who apply to the Planning and Zoning Commission must reside in Cortez city limits and be a registered elector. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month, starting at 6:30 p.m. Board members are paid $25 per month, if a meeting is scheduled that month.<\/p>\n

Cortez Parks, Recreation and Forestry Advisory Board<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two student representative seats are open on the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Advisory Board. The city shared that some of the responsibilities on this board include reviewing and making recommendations to the parks and recreation director concerning parks and recreation department programs, facilities, procedures, master plan and other strategic planning, rules, and fees; bringing comments, complaints and suggestions to the advisory board; helping promote the programs and facilities of the parks and recreation department and reviewing and making recommendations to the city council as needed on budget, policy and the master plan.<\/p>\n

Meetings are held on the first Thursday at each month, starting at 3 p.m. Special meetings may also take place, as needed. More information about this advisory board can be found online<\/a> at www.cortezco.gov\/332\/Parks-Recreation-Forestry.<\/p>\n

Board of Adjustment and Appeals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Responsibilities on the Board of Adjustments and Appeals include \u201chearing and deciding appeals to permit variance or modifications of the height of structures, yard area, and lot coverage and grant variances from flood hazard standards.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are no set meeting times for this board, and meetings are held when requested, according to the city.<\/p>\n
