(Beverly Scott\/Courtesy photo)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>The Southwestern Colorado Livestock Association\u2019s annual meeting is on Saturday, and the day is packed with activities.<\/p>\n<p>This year, it\u2019ll be at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds, which \u201cgives us room to move,\u201d said Lynelle Brumley, the secretary treasurer for the Livestock Association.<\/p>\n<p>The day kicks off with a morning session at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s more of informational meeting where elected officials and folks from the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and other organizations give reports and \u201cupdates on things that impact the agricultural and livestock community,\u201d Brumley said.<\/p>\n<p>At noon, there\u2019s a potluck luncheon, courtesy of Southwestern Cowbelles\/Cattlewomen.<\/p>\n<p>An hour later, at 1 p.m., there\u2019s a board meeting and election of directors. That meeting is also an opportunity to update members on things like which youths won scholarships and other youth-related activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScholarships are awarded to high school seniors in Montezuma and Dolores Counties who are pursuing an ag-related field of education,\u201d said Beverly Scott, a livestock association board member.<\/p>\n<p>Starting at 3 p.m., there\u2019s a silent auction which benefits the aforementioned scholarship fund and events the Livestock Association sponsors.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses around town donate things to be auctioned off; \u201clocal businesses are incredible in supporting the program,\u201d Brumley said.<\/p>\n<p>The brown and white brand quilt is always a \u201cmajor fundraiser,\u201d Brumley said. It\u2019ll be raffled at 8 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>This year, someone donated a brand quilt from 1963 that\u2019s red and white, decorated in brands from that time. (Beverly Scott\/Courtesy photo)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>At 7 p.m., the banquet begins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith a steak dinner, of course,\u201d Brumley said.<\/p>\n<p>Banquet tickets are $50 for adults, and $20 for kids under 10. All daytime events are free to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Starting this year, there\u2019s an opportunity to secure a VIP table.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndividuals, ranches and businesses may sponsor a table for $700, which will include a reserved table, dinner tickets and business promotion,\u201d a flyer advertised.<\/p>\n<p>Brumley said people usually dress \u201csnazzy,\u201d in their \u201cbest western clothes\u201d for the banquet.<\/p>\n<p>To spice things up, there will be door prizes in addition to the usual presentation of the Stockman of the Year, which Brumley called the \u201chighlight of the evening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Vanishing Breed band plays at 8:30 p.m. They\u2019re local and play the kind of music people cut up a rug to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019ll go from 9 a.m. to midnight,\u201d Brumley said.<\/p>\n<p>To secure a VIP table, contact Drew Gordanier at (970) 759-5392.
