On Jan. 27, Southwest Health System announced the addition of Dr. Eve Bruneau to its \u201cesteemed team of healthcare professionals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Bruneau brings a wealth of experience and expertise in general surgery, making her a valuable asset to our community,\u201d the press release said.<\/p>\n

Her background \u2013 in education and professional experience \u2013 is \u201cdiverse.\u201d<\/p>\n

She underwent a general surgery residency at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey. There, she was a chief resident and medical student liaison.<\/p>\n

Bruneau also has a degree in medical doctor of osteopathy from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, and a bachelor\u2019s in environmental biology.<\/p>\n

The \u201cDO\u201d following her name stands for Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, which, in effect, is holistic, comprehensive care.<\/p>\n

\u201cDOs are trained to look beyond your symptoms to understand how lifestyle and environmental factors impact your well-being,\u201d according to the American Osteopathic Association\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That training is coupled with \u201cspecial training in the musculoskeletal system.\u201d The combined knowledge allows them to \u201coffer patients the most comprehensive care available in health care today,\u201d the AOA website said.<\/p>\n

In her career, which spans more than a decade, Bruneau has worn many hats.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s been a general surgeon at the Northern Navajo Medical Center, a teaching assistant in neurology and neuroanatomy, a medical illustrator and an anatomy dissector.<\/p>\n

Bruneau \u201chas also contributed to the medical community through her publications and presentations. She\u2019s a member of both the American Osteopathic Association and the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, and is board-certified with the latter.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer dedication to patient care and her extensive experience will greatly benefit our community,\u201d said hospital CEO Joe Theine. \u201cWe look forward to the positive impact she will have on our patients and our health care system.\u201d<\/p>\n
