(Cameryn Cass\/The Journal)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>A few weeks ago, <em id=\"emphasis-01a4578e61a9cb17571aa5abf62e73ad\">The Journal<\/em> started packing moving boxes and preparing for its move a few doors down from its decadelong location at 8 W. Main St. to the Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce, 20 W. Main St.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the same crew, with the same mission, just a few doors west of our old office on Main Street,\u201d said Trent Stephens, executive editor for <em id=\"emphasis-de3dfe8a9566969b641ebd4e1379694f\">The Journal<\/em>, <em id=\"emphasis-cf6416b779de0fb26d4df6113c364084\">Durango Herald<\/em> and <em id=\"emphasis-694d55dd775873e29b542ba693ed8d8c\">Tri-City Record<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTamara Desrosiers is still at the front door, and Joe Nelson, Cameryn Cass and I are upstairs,\u201d Stephens added. \u201cStop by our new space at the Cortez Chamber and say hello.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The building is also home to the LOR Foundation, Indigenous Wellbriety, Region 9 and the Montezuma County Republicans, to name a few organizations that are based in the building.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe spent a lot of time evaluating options for our new digs in Cortez before deciding on the Cortez Chamber of Commerce office,\u201d said John Blais, publisher and CEO of Ballantine Communications Inc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile there were other great options, the location \u2026 keeps us in a visible spot and offers several amenities and resources that will be helpful to our team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blais added that the coworking space in the building is ideal, \u201cas we expect <em id=\"emphasis-5819a43e05d7554cbc6e724a17e31a39\">The Journal <\/em>to grow in the coming years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking to hire an additional reporter, who would focus on the Four Corners area,\u201d Stephens said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no threat to the newspaper,\u201d Blais said. \u201cThe move is a proactive step to help us stay ahead of rising costs and tariffs that are increasing our expenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, \u201cover the past two decades, the digital age has transformed our news reporting, advertising and production operations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFewer employees need to be in the office to collaborate and complete their work.
