A Farmington woman at the center of a current child abuse case, which involved locking a 15-year-old girl in a chicken coop, was shot and killed Wednesday morning at her home.<\/p>\n

Patricia Madrid, 36, was arrested Feb. 18 and charged with 14 felony counts of child abuse and conspiracy to commit child abuse. She was released from custody Feb. 19.<\/p>\n

Her boyfriend Jammy Jackson, 59, was the father of the child. He was arrested by Farmington Police and booked at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday into the San Juan County Detention Center on a failure to comply warrant.<\/p>\n

Farmington Police were called at 7:58 a.m. to the home in the 1000 block of Auburn Avenue in response to a shooting. They found Madrid shot at the home, according to a news release from the department.<\/p>\n

Madrid was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center, where she died.<\/p>\n

Madrid and Jackson allegedly kept Jackson\u2019s 15-year-old daughter in a chicken coop, where she was \u201crequired to wear earmuffs and a blindfold.\u201d She also was \u201crequired to stand\u201d from about 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day, the affidavit for arrest warrant states.<\/p>\n

The teenage girl was allegedly abused from November 2023 through Sept. 15, 2024. It ended only after the girl, who reportedly suffers from autism, ADHD and fetal alcohol syndrome, reported to her maternal grandmother that she was being abused at the family home.<\/p>\n

Police obtained search warrant for a number of text messages between Madrid and Jackson, which reportedly detailed the alleged abuse that occurred during summer and winter, at times during extreme heat or extreme cold and without protection from the weather.<\/p>\n

Madrid, who accused the girl of \u201cstealing water,\u201d put her on a bathroom schedule of \u201conce in the morning and once in the evening.\u201d<\/p>\n

Text messages between the couple also showed they were withholding food and water from the girl, to limit her use of the toilet, according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n

In another text message Madrid reportedly wished the teen dead, writing to Jackson, \u201cI wish that b***ch was dead with her mom. She is a horrible human,\u201d according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n

Madrid reportedly started dating Jackson not long after the girl\u2019s mother died.<\/p>\n

The details of Jackson\u2019s failure to comply warrant have not been detailed in court records, although he was known to possess firearms and reportedly threatened his daughter with one, according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n

The teen told the forensic interviewer that Jackson put a \u201cgun against her head and said he didn\u2019t mind killing someone,\u201d and that \u201che didn\u2019t care to go to jail and it was no different from killing an animal,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n

Jackson has not been named a suspect in Madrid\u2019s killing, and police say the investigation remains active and no arrests have been made.<\/p>\n

There is a person of interest, who police say is \u201ca male on a bicycle\u201d caught on video riding \u201ceast on Navajo Street toward Lincoln Avenue,\u201d said Shanice Gonzales, spokeswoman for Farmington Police.<\/p>\n

The Farmington Police Department urges anyone with information or video surveillance from the area to contact detectives at 505-599-1068.<\/p>\n
