More than 30 pieces of locally made art will be on display at Fenceline Cider in Mancos and silently auctioned off between 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, March 15.<\/p>\n

Beside each creation \u2013 whether it be a glass piece, an embroidered bag, metal or fiber art \u2013 will be a print of what initially inspired it: Artwork from students at the Mancos Early Learning Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe art is starting to come in,\u201d said Blythe Morrison, a member of the early learning center\u2019s parent committee. \u201cIt\u2019s fun to see how the artists translated the kid art into their media.\u201d<\/p>\n

The artists didn\u2019t have an opportunity to sit down with the child who made the artwork, and thus had no opportunity to ask what it\u2019s supposed to be.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey had to just run with it,\u201d said Chelsea Lunders, the executive director of the creative district.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a fun, playful thing as an artist, to have a prompt like that,\u201d Morrison said. \u201cWe\u2019ve gotten really positive feedback.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marilyn Kroaker, a participating artist, said \u201cI would do this again in a heartbeat.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat fun to be collaboratively creative with someone I\u2019ve never met,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

When Kroaker first got the artwork, she was \u201ccompletely baffled\u201d by the \u201cyellow lines\u201d and \u201cpink squiggles\u201d she saw, so she hung it on the fridge for a few days, trying to decipher what it was.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dear sister, who should\u2019ve been an artist, within 30 seconds said it\u2019s a cup and saucer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The design was set on white paper, so Kroaker used porcelain to make the tea set. That way, the colors will be \u201cpink and yellow yellow, instead of the clay turning it other colors,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Lunders said other artists she\u2019s spoken with have shared similarly positive experiences, and that they all were happy to donate their art to the cause.<\/p>\n

The fundraiser is advertised around the county as Little Visions Big Creations, and it will benefit the Mancos Creative District and the Mancos Early Learning Center.<\/p>\n

All money the creative district receives will go toward youth programming in the opera house, said Lunders.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the first fundraiser of its kind so if it\u2019s successful, they\u2019d like to do it annually.<\/p>\n

Morrison added that it\u2019s free to attend \u2013 there\u2019s no cover charge \u2013 and the art is priced at a range, and thus inclusive to all budgets. Music from the Dirty Chords will start a little later in the evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels good to be contributing to my community,\u201d Kroaker said. \u201cThey\u2019ve been so supportive of me and my art journey, so giving back is where it\u2019s at.\u201d<\/p>\n
