A hands-on Citizens Academy is coming up at the Cortez Police Department to give the community a better idea of a day in the life of a law enforcement officer.<\/p>\n

It starts on April 3 and runs every Thursday for seven weeks, until May 15. It\u2019s free to attend and goes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St.<\/p>\n

Participants will practice with tasers, \u201cmake determinations in a real-life DUI situation,\u201d and \u201cget wrapped during FBI tactics,\u201d a press release announcing the academy reads.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ll also have the chance to meet local officers, dispatchers and detectives, ask questions and hear their stories.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is your VIP invitation to an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the world of law enforcement,\u201d it reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether you\u2019re planning a date night, a girls\u2019 night out, or a fun evening with friends, neighbors, or family, the Citizens Academy is the perfect way to spend your Thursday nights.\u201d<\/p>\n

Participants must be at least 18 years old and will be \u201cvetted to ensure a safe and engaging experience for all,\u201d the press release said.<\/p>\n

Registration for the Citizens Academy is now open at www. CortezPD.org<\/a> under the \u201cprograms\u201d tab. Call the Cortez Police Department at (970) 565-8441 with any follow-up questions.<\/p>\n
