{"id":22911,"date":"2025-04-01T16:57:42","date_gmt":"2025-04-01T22:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/motion-filed-to-keep-child-abuse-shooting-suspect-in-jail-till-trial\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T22:20:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T04:20:08","slug":"motion-filed-to-keep-child-abuse-shooting-suspect-in-jail-till-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/motion-filed-to-keep-child-abuse-shooting-suspect-in-jail-till-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"Motion filed to keep child abuse shooting suspect in jail till trial"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=c0ef175d-fea0-59ac-98b8-33ffef31e337&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" alt=\"Matthew Sandoval, 40, of Farmington, was arrested and charged with killing Patricia Madrid.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Matthew Sandoval, 40, of Farmington, was arrested and charged with killing Patricia Madrid.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The San Juan County District Attorney\u2019s Office filed a motion to hold homicide suspect Matthew Sandoval until his trial.<\/p>\n<p>The expedited motion was entered March 31 during Sandoval\u2019s first appearance in Farmington Magistrate Court, when Defense Attorney Victor Titus stated he would represent Sandoval.<\/p>\n<p>Sandoval, 40, was charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, in connection with the shooting death of Patricia Madrid, 36, of Farmington.<\/p>\n<p>Madrid was shot while sitting in her black Ford Explorer about 7:58 a.m. Feb. 26 outside her home in the 1100 block of North Auburn Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Madrid reportedly was on her way to court for a preliminary hearing for a case in which she was charged with seven counts of felony child abuse and six counts of conspiracy to commit child abuse, according to statements from a family member in the arrest affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>The charges against Madrid were linked to allegations that she and her boyfriend, Jammy Jackson, 59, of Farmington, kept Jackson\u2019s 15-year-old daughter in a chicken coop, where she was required to wear earmuffs and a blindfold. She also was required to stand 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day, a warrant states.<\/p>\n<p>The girl was allegedly abused from November 2023 to Sept. 15, 2024. the abuse reportedly ended after the girl, who reportedly has autism, ADHD and fetal alcohol syndrome, told her maternal grandmother that she was being abused.<\/p>\n<p>According to the affidavit, Madrid\u2019s teenage daughter told police that her mother had received threats since the allegations came to light, and some were from the girl\u2019s biological father, Mark Sandoval.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Sandoval, is the brother of Mark, and Madrid\u2019s former brother-in-law, according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>In the expedited motion, the DA\u2019s Office states that \u201cthe charges against the defendant are extremely violent,\u201d and it is alleged that he \u201cplanned out and murdered a member of the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The motion further states that \u201cno release conditions will reasonably protect the safety of any other person or the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The case now moves to the 11th Judicial District for a motions hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>it\u2019s safer to keep Sandoval locked up<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":22912,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[28],"naviga_topic":[],"class_list":["post-22911","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-headlines"],"acf":[],"author_name":"dh_admin","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22911","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=22911"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22911\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":77899,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/22911\/revisions\/77899"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/22912"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=22911"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=22911"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=22911"},{"taxonomy":"naviga_topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/naviga_topic?post=22911"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
